Cool

hofts,
Yes, just below max. I load my rifles to shoot a given bullet at a given velocity. I go thru many powders trying to attain this within a given cartridge. I abandon the bullet or even the rifle for that matter if I don't achieve the results I'm looking for.
Yes dead is dead. Either with a 300 mag or a 308. I like to know exactly what my rifles are capable of doing performance wise. Be it my BIG 30 beyond 500 or my 7mm-08 in the woods between the trees at 225.
Pressure and temperature are a MUST factor when loading. My Swift on 90 deg days does not like the same load used on the 60 deg day.
You are the one that needs to decide at what level you want your rifle perform and don't go to the unknown zone trying to get beyond a particular cartridge. That's my they make so many different cartridges. For us reloading to go get another rifle (or have one made). That the best part of reloading, finding the right combo for YOUR rifle.!

Most of my reloads end up at about mid-point of the reloading data. Mostly, it a preference thing and that's where I usually find the best accuracy. All the best...

Hogdon's "Extreme" line of powders are very insensivive to hot=high pressures, where they work, that's a good way to "stay safer" for those of us who like to develope loads in the summer! Just thought I'd pass that along.

When possible they're all I use now, ( I like to shoot too much when it's hot to "not shoot" )

I back off of max loads and have since having to replace two varmint barrels in one year. Gawd, those things aren't cheap. I try now to find out at what velocity my rifles shoot best and load to that level. I discovered my .22-250 for example is most accurate with 52gr. bullets at 3600fps. so that's the speed I load to even though I can crank them up a good bit more. I now do this with seven different rifles. It works for me. Best wishes.

Howdy Rocky
Not to change the subject just wanted to comment on the 788. I bought one at our local gun show a year and a half ago and finally got around to shooting it . It is a very accurate rifle and $220. well spent. Mine is in .308 caliber and I wish Remington still made them. MC
