Bill, You might want to give BSA a call....I think that they have a good warranty on their scopes. They may just rebuild/replace it for you.

Just a thought.

Catfish,

BY today's standard, you are pretty rich. I have retired people as clients with mortgages on their homes and barely enough retirement income to cover the mortgage. It drives me utterly nuts.

Got a few 4 power Swift pistol scopes on contender barrels and while the optical quality is far from camera quality ,they have held up well on .35 rem and 45-70 barrels. Could well be the 2 sets of scope rings on a weaver rail that helps a bunch. A trick i got from a ram and pig shooter and fellow contender nut.

Had the first one since about 1990 and many thousand 35 rem rounds have gone down the end and never had a problem staying on target.

I sight in and build some deer slug guns, I have seen many a cheap tasco (Vintage Wallmart) nearly explode inside from the recoil. 39.99 at wall mart just don't cut it on a 7 pound 12 guage slug gun sending 300 grains at 1500 FPS +. Since having good luck with Swift in the past have been recommending swifts 1.5-4X32 for about 150 bucks to those who ask my opinion on a cheap deer slug scope. have yet to send back one.

Still a bsa illuminated 3X9X40 at a cheap price will sell well. On a 223 shot twice a year will last the normal gun buyer years.
