Yep,
I was a range master for over 20 years and would put on a silhouette match every month for rimmed cartridges in rifles, using long range pistol silhouette targets, out to 200 meters. Off hand only. It gave the guys with closet queens something to do with their bangers. One guy owned an as issued big bore Martini and he was a handful to go up against. That Martini lock time is quick and the original cartridge was very accurate. Ed

Well...not a yard sale
But I did find a few things at an estate sale. What I did buy was a really nice T-C Contender with 4 bbls. 357 mag in 10 inch...7MM TCU 14 inch and a 14 inch 35 Remington bbl...and the other is a 28 ga bbl made by a company named D A Van Horn. Marked 28 ga Parabellum as it is 16 inches and is straight rifled. What I didn't buy and is still for sale is a Colt SAA in 32-20 5 1/2 inch with a Bowen Quick draw rig(beautiful work BTW) and a companion Wichester M-92 32-20 with 24 in octagon bbl. The Wichester is in about 50% condition but the Colt is at least 85% Blue and Case colors. Haven't seen a 1918 Colt in such condition ever. Not a refinish either. Just too rich for my blood. Guy wanted 4500 for the pair

Well Dan
The price isn't too bad. If it is only 85% on the blue(a refinish blue BTW since it had a rib put on) If you could get it for 350 that would be good. If not try the compromise of 375. Plain field wood?? If original Winchester checkered wood buy it for 400. Nice good shooting guns. Some are over 90 yrs old now. I have an original trap made the first year for the vent rib(1919) and it is still a good shooter. BTW if ya buy it send it to Briley and have screw chokes put in. Make it a really versatile gun then.

Sorry Dan
I missed the reply. The simmons isn't too big a deal. There are 1000's of them out there with those. Offer the guy 350 and buy it. Or I'll take it if you don't want it.
Now I did another gun sale this weekend. Not a yard sale but I bought factory 9mm ammo of all types for 3 bucks a box...and got bullets for reloading for 2 and 3 dollars per 100. Speer and Sierra 357's 158 gr HP's 7mm bullets 2 bucks a box same for 30 cals. Also got once fired 223 brass. 3000 rounds for 5 bucks(like I need more). Box of Remington 30 Rem for 3 bucks. Also got a bunch of the Speer plastic cases and bullets for 38 cal and a couple of boxes of the plastic 45 bullets(any body need some?)... Didn't need them but the box had a couple boxes of 44 shot cups for snakes and a box of 357 same thing. Only bought one gun although I should have bought more. Got a Smith 22 semi auto with a red dot sight for a very good price. Nice condition too. ![]() ![]()

Skeet,
Sounds like my #1 pass for $800. It had a $600 scope on it.....just a blonde moment. A 700 short action, standard bolt face, for 175, with parts to sell, yeh, well....... ![]() Ed

Skeet, on Beuhler mounts, I believe the S stamp is for short action. Most likely a mount for the 700 ADL you passed up.

700x will work in the 45 and the 44 mag for sure. It makes a very plesant cast bullet load. Ed

GOt a rem 870 express today, 2-3/4-3 inch, 28inch vent rib barrel threaded for choke tubes, only had a mod choke tube though.
In like new condition, can tell it's been used if you know where to look for normal wear and tear, but otherwise looks the way it did coming out of the box. ( and even then there is very little wear on it) walked out with it for $200, might not be the best deal ever, but I am happy with it ![]() |
