Dan Morris,

Getting back to your thread: I use both factory and reloads in my guns; I use what is most accurate in my guns. Many states have passed "Castle Doctrine" laws that shield citizens when they employ deadly force. I would not want to be a test case to see how much citizens are shielded.

I have followed many justifiable shooting incidents in my career and found the FIRST question was: Was the use of deadly force justified? A bad shooting would not be justified merely by the use of factory ammo. I tell my handgun students to retreat, if possible, and when there are no other options, use deadly force.

Another legal question is "Standing." A use of deadly force at 2:00 a.m. in your home repelling a home invader has more standing than say, dropping a guy in a Walmart parking lot. CCW and home defense situations demand a lot of good judgement and I hope we never have that scenario to deal with. But, in gravest extreme, do what you gotta do with factory or handloads.

I use factory ammo while CC in the city, running errands, ect. While hunting, I usually have handloads in my sidearms.
I don't think the bad guy is going to wait for me to change over from handloads to factory loads; I will use what I have available.;)
