Guess It's Gonna Be Handloads
Several months ago, I thought I'd better replace the rounds in a couple of house guns. Like every one else, I know ammo and reloading stuff is gettin kinda thin...went to 6 major outlets this morning. NO 357/38+P/9mm/40 or 44Mag.
Called a buddy with BP...was supposed to get ammo shipment yesturday..." sorry bud...none of the above" As lib lawyers have a field day with hand loads, I wanted 'carry' stuff...... Guess it's time to load some Golden Sabres and let the chips fall where they may! Only factory stuff I have is 45HB. Dan

FWIW, there has never been an incidence where the use of handloads in a self defensive shooting have been used to convict the shooter, providing the shooting was justified.
.....and for the record, good luck finding bullets/powder/primers to use in your handloads; we went to 3 different stores today and come up empty!

To counter that, but not to start an argument, let me say that I do not wish to be the precedent-setting case of the guy convicted because he used handloads. Factory stuff for me.
Dan, I think I'd keep the factory stuff you had for a while. Keep your eyes open and replace it when you can, but use the old factory ammo until then.

Its factory stuff for my selfdefense. Particularly in Mass, its just something else you will have to defend. I've been hording for a while now so I'm all set. Its getting hard to find factory 9's, 40's, 45's and 357's. I suspect the supply will open up shortly. Have been ordering my handloading stuff lately. Usually shows up in a month or so. Hording that also. I smell something in the air.

Again, not trying to derail the thread, but ... As I've mentioned before, there are two possible outcomes of all this:
One, Obamaphobia is overblown, and hoarders end up with many years' worth of components that they paid through the nose to get. That leads to such a slump in component sales that the folks who didn't hoard will then see super-bargain prices and plentiful supplies. Two, Obamaphobia is even worse than feared, and the possession of guns, ammo or components is utterly prohibited. Hoarders will be saddled with tons of very expensive stuff they can't use, can't sell and can't admit to owning - or go to jail for it. Either way, hoarders are phoocked.

Rocky is right
I went into Wally World the other day...looking for some 38-357 ammo for a friend.. Not a joke..I have more ammo at home here than they had in the store..Not just 38's...I mean total. They did have plenty of shotgun ammo but no 38,357,40, 45..8 boxes of 9mm 6 boxes of 44 mag...at high prices too. Rifle ammo was in short supply also. I actually bought 1000 small pistol primers in the store last week. First time in 30 yrs that I can remember..longer even.. price was ok at 24 bucks but the rest of the primer shelves were empty. This has gotten ridiculous. Hopefully supply will overtake demand sometime soon. I am actually afraid that Rocky's second scenario is the final outcome of the shooting sports in the future..probably like Canada at the very least. Stupidity in government...But heck..the people elected that bunch.

Not that I would wish this on any generation here in the US, present or future, but I certainly hope that if the above were to actually come to pass, there would be armed revolts around the country that would make the race riots of the 60's in Watts and Chicago look like tea and crumpets (sp?) with the Queen (no disrespect meant whatsoever to Her Majesty, of course.) Having lived myself with kin down South, I know their hearts and believe this geographical area to cling fiercely to their 2nd A. rights first. Rural area across the US might also join in. I personally do not see any metropolitan areas in most big cities, which by and large are again at the teet of big govmt, being at the forefront of an armed insurrection. The scary part is I believe that a good portion of Americans would, in fact, trade their rights to defend themselves and family along with overthrowing a tyranical government that no longer rules for the people, for perceived security-whatever the guise used to strip this nation from her constitution. And ironically enough, it may not even be the Obama administration that becomes the new Fuhrer but a subsequent one following the absolving of our right to keep and bear arms. History does repeat itself and unfortunately, the nature of man has not changed. Certainly, no good things can come to our liberties following the above second scenario outlined. Should this unfold, and my own family knows already very clearly where I stand on this issue, future generations of my family will know that I tried protecting our freedoms. I do not mean to hijack this thread but I ask my fellow countrymen, if you haven't already asked yourself this question, what would you be willing to do to protect our 2nd ammendment rights should the above unfold? |

Steverino,
Ben Franklin said, "A free man can vote himself into slavery, but no slave can vote himself free." I believe the next school shooting or mall massacre (in a gun-free zone, of course) will be the vehicle for the administration to push through bad anti-gun laws faster than the current bailout went through Congress. A sage quote, my friend Adam. I also agree with your prediction concerning imminent gun legislation.
Getting back to topic here, my apologies Dan, I too use factory loads for my personal defense ammuntion. When I begin handloading in the (hopefully ) not too distant future, I will still utilize the factory flavors-especially in the anti-gun area that I reside (NW burbs of Chicago) As a sidenote, I saw an advertisement recently, (Cabelas I believe) that had pitched a new personal protection line of cartridges from Hornady that claimed low flash, recoil, and muzzle blast for in the house shooting scenarios. I'll have to look into it. |
