GAS PRICE`s are going up I heard it this morning,...
Well I guess there`s some perks to working at a carry out ,...
Found out this morning from the regional manager that in this area(Upstate NY) gas prices could reach close to $3.00 a gal. by Saturday or even earlier. Gas prices here now are at $2.29 a gal for the cheap stuff (not being funny here),and $2.51 a gal for the higher Octane stuff. I asked my supervisor if he (the regional manager) meant that the higher octane was going to be around or close to $3.00 a gal. She said no that the lower octane was going to be at approx. $3.00 a gal. I am thinking of trading in my F150 for a quarter horse or horse or mule. Better get my chaps out and cowboy boots as well. Yippie KI YEA!!!! Later All SAFE HUNTIN~ |
This is going to hurt our economy and we are already feeling it. Our orders are down from previous years and it's only going to get worse. We can thank the media for lowering consumer confidence and spreading the seeds of worry.
I expect gas to hit $4 and maybe $5 per gallon. edited to fix muh grammar |
Ur right Skinny, and ,......
It has been rumored that gas prices are just the tip of the iceberg.
It is gettin really scarey and hairy now. The book of Revalations is truely coming to life before our very eyes. I would start thinkin of better ways to get to and from wherever, and doing it with friends and family and co-workers to help ease the hurt that is going to be put upon us due to a president with no B _ _ _ S !! to get the job done in the middle east. Those Arabes know they have us by the B_ _ _ S , and there aint a dang thing we all can do about it. Start prayin everyone,....this could be the start of a Revolution in the 21st century that we never wanted. Wow !!! what a life huh,....one minute we are all talkin about huntin and the next we all might have to do it to survive,....I wonder how are those PETA`s going to survive?! Later ALL LOOKIN for a horse and saddle, will trade F-150 Pick up SAFE HUNTIN ALL~ |
I knew it had ta be the media's fault that gas prices were high and going higher.....

Going back to my original thought, their publishing every single blip in the stock market and the speculation that follows along with "predictions" by the "experts" of how bad we are doing (and are going to do) just makes people tighten their wallets and pocketbooks more and more. Which is why I feel they play a major role in how the public spends their money. Good job. Allen |
I wish I was paying $2.50/gal for gas! Here it is $91.5/l which works out to about $3.46/gal (this is not taking in the difference in our money just for the ease of explaining it)
Whats worse, is that I live in the heart of oil country, I have a refinery less than 2 miles from my house and a huge (multi billion dollar) upgrader just out side of town, and we still pay some of the highest prices in Alberta! |
Here's an example of oil futures for Winter being decided now:

Skinny, I got a feeling that what has the public's mind on gas prices is stopping at the gas station and filling up, not reading the paper.
When a $20 used to fill the tank 2 years ago, and now it's nearly a $50, people notice, and the media has nothing to do with it. |
It costs 70-80 to fill my truck up. That does bite, hard. And, were not in a traditionally high area, not even close.
Wolvie, you may be right, but I would be surprised. Im not saying I dont believe in the bible. I do. But, signs of the end of times are always coming. Always have. I remember in the early 70s, the preacher standing and pounding on the pulpit, preaching that the end of times were near. The highjackings of airplanes, wars and rumors of wars, the leader of Iran was the anti-christ, the economy was in the pits, ect..... I followed it right along, scared to death. Then my grandpa told me not to worry too much. It was the same when he was a kid, just different players. Hitler, japs, depression, ect.... Ive actually thought about it alot. Another thing he told me then, sticks with me. It will come in the twinkling of an eye and you will know not the time or day. Revelations? Possible, but I surely doubt it...... Andy |
here in kaliphornia, we're near the $3.00 per gallon mark already and have been for a while.
i saw an interview with an oil corp CEO on the fox news "business" segment recently and he openly said "don't be surprised to see gasoline at $3.00 per gallon before the end of the year." i believe what was said earlier in this thread ... that $5.00 per gallon is the oil industries goal ... i also heard the CEO of mobil (?) in an interview say "we are entitled to a profit" ... that profit was something over $11 billion if i remember what he said correctly. of course it will afffect the ecomomy but that's not all bad when you think about it ... it has already begun to slow down the building and developing here in the rural area where i live. that $3.00 per gallon is being passed onto the consumer and the consumer is reaching the point of "sorry, can't afford it ..." we're now seeing the $500,000.00 houses sit vacant ... i know for a fact, the high cost of fuel has affected MY 'economy'. |
In my job, I have no choice but to drive. I put approx 40k miles per year on. And, with my F250 Diesel, it costs anywhere from $60 to $70 dollars, sometimes more, to fill er up, almost daily, it seems anyway. That stings some.
I gotta have a truck, pulling my camper when we want to go somewhere, bass boat and hunting. I tried buying a little cheap car that got 30 mpg, but it was just costing more. It seems it should have saved me, but by the time you recognize the savings, the car was going to be worn out. Im better off driving my truck and not gettin on it much, it will get 16-19 mpg if I drive it right...... As for the economy, it will effect it. People make x number of dollars. People are reliant on fuel to get to work to make those dollars. If it costs more to get there and back, that leaves less dollars for luxuries, vacations, more expensive food, eating out, new houses, ect..... Its not going to help anyone. Pretty simple. If Joe Blows Bar and Grill isnt getting as much business because people are spending money on fuel instead of eating and drinking in his place, then hes gonna lay off his employees as needed. Cant be good. For my business, I have noticed that downturns in economy help in the short term, sad as it is, but not the long term. In the short term, some people out of work and desperate will steal or sell drugs to make ends meet. They get arrested and it boosts our business. But, as the economy gets worse, mom and dad and friends dont have the money to get them out anymore, so it goes down again. And the jails fill up. See what happens. Andy |
*UPDATE* in Upstate NY
Gas prices in my area are now at $2.45 a gal for Reg unleaded, and $2.70 a gal. for the Super Unleaded stuff.
Prices are to stay on a trend upward of .6 cents to ..11 cents through the next couple to few weeks. Partly due to the Hurricaine (Dennis the Menace), and also the war in the middle east. Also to note,...the media here hasnt printed much on the soring gas price surges ,...they are printing more about people coming up lost and or found and about a local POND (I call it a lake or was one), dam that had broke. I thought I would update everyone for the area I am in so if you plan to come this way you`ll know what to expect as far as gas prices. Later ALL SAFE HUNTIN~ |
Reg. gas went to $2.39 yesterday, jumped 14 cents a gallon in one leap. After reading some of the other posts I won't complain, at least here.

What I have read is that if everybody in the US bought a car that got about 7 miles per gallon better gas mileage, we would have absolutely no reliance on the Arab nations. If a lot of people made their homes energy efficient, that would help us out too.
Problem is that nobody wants to invest the money to do so, and with the rat race that we have (i.e., bigger is better) everybody wants the SUV like the guy next door. When I went to Italy 4 years ago, people were driving cars that sat only 2 or 3 people and the cars were extremely small and good on gas. The Toyota Prius gets 55 mpg and there are other hybrids out there. If people would switch to hybrids or alternative fuel vehicles, we wouldn't be having this problem with gas and we could tell the Arab nations to pee up a rope. Problem is, nobody wants to do it. Like I have been telling my wife of a day, life is full of problems and we just need to work out a solution. Gas is high, so there are several options: 1. Find a job closer to home 2. Get a car with better gas mileage 3. Buy a motorcycle 4. Buy a bicycle When I was younger (i.e., too young to drive), I rode my bike 10 miles each way to a bike shop to work. Right there, the Chinese have a step up on us. Plenty of them rides bikes and are in much better shape than Americans. We have an obesity problem because people are used to an easy life. Let's all stop complaining about everything, put our heads down, and push on. If you have the money, spend it. If you do not have the money, find an alternative. To think that I am a pessimist. As far as spending is concerned, I got married last night and we recouped over 50% of the cost of the reception in monetary gifts, not to mention the items that we received from our registry. So, the economy cannot be doing too bad. |
Well I got 3 out of 4 Fabs,....lol
I have done and have basically 3 out of the 4 items.
I work 1 block from the house,... I have a small car that gets more then 7 miles to the gal and one that gets 19 miles to the gal in the city. And I have a brand new 15 speed mountain bike. As for a motorcycle,....I cant afford one of them ,....those are becoming the caddys of vechicles now. As for complaining about the gas prices and stuff,....I feel that everyone needs to vent, and this is probly the only real way of doing that ,...I think most people complain because they want to see if they are the only ones complaining about whatever. Which is kewl to me,...cause I do it. It`s sort of a sounding off, and survey issue in our minds. I am glad to see that there are more people thinking like me and feeling the way I do. Now I dont feel alone in my complaints and so on. Life is going to get harder and more expensive,as we go,...but as I have always said we all need to work together and harder to keep what we have or we are going to lose it,... Voting in the right people is one thing but we ALL need to back them and help them know what we ALL want. Standing against those that try to oppress us,...is the only way we will ever keep or gain what we have and will have. Later ALL SAFE HUNTIN~ |

Getting my Motorcycle endorsement in a few days... 50 Mpg! Weeeee!
The commute is short enough, hopefully Ill save even more gas. |
If gas prices get too much worse I am buying a deisel truck and running it on Biodeisel (used french fry oil) and that's a fact jack.

GAS INFO UPDATE,.....
Prices here in Upstate NY went down .2 cents yesterday,...but are to rise again by the weekend by .4 cents.
WAS : 2.47 a gal. NOW: 2.45 a gal. WEEKEND POSSIBLE: 2.49 a gal. It has been said that by August $3.00 a gal will be the norm. And with Emily moving in,...we could be seeing a rise in gas prices early as next week. Later ALL SAFE HUNTIN~ |
You know what I think? I think its all a bunch of BS. Iraq OWES us alot. We paid dearly for them to rid themeselves of a tyrant. We paid dearly to help them start their own country and at least have a chance at a good life. We saved Kuwaits ass a decade ago from the same tyrant. And, in a way, Saudi Arabia. They were no doubt next on the hit list.
We should see some returns on that investment soon. They have plenty of oil. Instead of worrying about three dollar plus oil, we should be looking forward to gas under a buck. Someone, OPEC and the refineries, are getting rich. This is total BS, at our expense. There is no oil shortage. There is no energy shortage of any kind. Water, wind, solar, all kinds of energy are renewable. Oil isnt, not quickly anyway, but there is plenty of it. Maybe its time we quit lining the pockets of the big companies and start using some of our own right here in our mainland, offshore and Alaska. Let the middle east suck on that for a while and maybe they will be happy to make a few billion a month instead of a few trillion. I guess you can take what I think and a few dollars and go get a gallon of gas though...... Andy Edit, Although it makes good economic sense, and probably good sense all the way around, it is a crying shame that we must burn french fry oil for gods sake, in our vehicles. We give our money, our militarys lives, everything to these bastards and we gotta burn used french fry oil to survive. Something is wrong with this picture. Does anyone remember the way war used to be? To the victor goes the spoils? What happened to that? If we used that mentality today, we would be back to the good ole fifty cent gas. Maybe we should rethink this a bit. I hear Iraq is beautiful, at least along the rivers. Take over that country, we got all the cheap gas we want, the people can have good jobs running resorts and everyone comes out a winner. We need another state. One with lots of oil and vacation spots. Then maybe we could all afford a vacation. If we used that mentality, why not just go ahead and take over Syria and Iran as well. They have done nothing but fight us forever. Might as well have their oil as well. |
Although ur way may seem,.....
Far fetched,...I am with you brother!!!!
America has become a stepping stone for the goat herders of the middle east,..and what do we as Americans have to show for it except high gas prices and low wages,...and companies closing. America the free?! I am starting to wonder if that is even going to be our motto in the next few coming years.? But as working Americans we cant do nothing until we put a goverment in place that sees it as we do,...and says "Let`s not be led into the valley of death by our enemy" But instead lead them to their fate of doom"! Take from them what they have been taking from us for years,....their lively hood,....Why should Americans go poor and be without to help a thankless country ,who wants to put us all in the ground,..and take America out of existance all together.?!!! I say turn the tables ,..open our lines in Alaska and anywhere else we have fuel,...open our stock piles and cut off all relief and aide to those that are recieving it and are thankless for our help. America is the land of the FREE , and we deserve to be free, as do our childerns childern,... I am behind you Andy and anyone else that sees it the way you and I do,... And in closing I would like to say,...if we are to survive and keep our freedom,...and what we have ,..we need to take theirs,..and stop this kindness crap,..or civil actions,...barrerics we need to be, in a barrberic time that we live. You can count me in on this. Back in the late 1960s, IIRC, they were discussing a special type of nuke called the neutron bomb. It's design made it am extremely dirty bomb that would do little destruction to buildings and other infrastructure, but the radiation would totally wipe out the population. Of course, all the bleeding hearts and the U.N. all objected to so inhumane a weapon, but maybe that wasn't such a bad idea after all. Neutron bomb the entire Middle East, wait the three months for the radiation to dissipate and move on in and take it over. FWIW, there are rumors that Israel does have such weapons.
I've seen in the local paper where half the royal Saudi family wants to cut us off completely and the other half does not. So far, the half that is on our side controls the oil. Still, I strongly suspect that they are supporting Al Quaida under the table. Most likely the half that hates us anyway, but I would not be surprised if the "friendly" side wasn't involved as well. Then there is the current president of Venezuala, Hugo Chavez who hates our guts. We get a big portion of our oil from them, and all he has to do is say, "No more oil to the U.S. and just what in hell are we going to do about that? Maybe it's time the CIA started taking up "wet work" again. I also think it is time the average American quits wringing his hands saying, "Woe is me." and get his head out of his butt and take back his country. Cheap oil? Hell no! Not as long as the oil companies can buy off our politicians. I've said this before, and I'll say this again. "WE HAVE THE BEST GOVERNMENT MONEY CAN BUY!" As long as big business gives the politicians their campaign money, they will always call the shots which will make it easy for them to control our government, quietly under the table. I don't know about anyone else, but personally, I'M MAD AS HELL! Paul B. |
Just to rescue this thread from political degeneration (I hope), here's a LINK to a site called Gas Buddy. Just click on a state and then search a city to find the lowest - and highest - gas prices with the last three days. It's VERY handy to locate the nearest, cheapest gas, especially if you're on the road. Even if you're at home, you can find a good price - and the places to avoid!

Okay, I didn't have the time to read everything posted, but read enough to see where this thread is.
While on vacation this past week, I read a book called "1942" which us written by the author of Forest Gump and it chronicles the beginning of World War II and how the Allies turned the tide. At the end, it also gives a little history of what happened there. A lot of the war was for expansion. Japan needed more land and economic resources because it had out grown its island. Same thing with Germany, but probably not the case with Italy. Anyway, they were all headed to the middle east and the oil that they needed. Japan was negotiating with the US over 2 million gallons of high test airplane fuel when Pearl Harbor happened. So, we saved the middle east yet again, but took nothing. We didn't gain any land whatsoever. In winning the war, we didn't gain anything and even helped pay to rebuild Europe and Japan. We helped rebuild Europe to help prevent Russia from getting a communist grip on Europe when nobody had jobs after the war. I don't know exactly why we helped Japan out, but maybe we felt sorry about dropping the bomb on it. In the end, trying to take over any middle eastern country with oil would cause World War III for sure. War and politics aren't an easy thing. |
Fabs,I respect ya more then most,...BUT
We are turning into a country that cant even take car of our own,...So really what do we have to lose?!
Our own people are starving, and jobless, and if the gas prices continue (which they are and will),to rise,...theres going to be alot more people out of a job and without a home even. I think we need to either, crap or get off the pot! Either our goverment gets off their ARSE`s and allows our troops to do their job,...and get rid of all the terriorist BS and start showing we got some Balls!!! Otherwise,....we`ll all be seeing America Aid Benefit. Later ALL SAFE HUNTIN~ |

as for getting a job closer to home?...where have you been?..people are loosing jobs every day..how can you quit a good paying job just to move closer to home?..work just not there..my jobsite moved from one mile from here to the next county because of the taxes they got hit with...pension, bennies..all that..had to drive longer..and some of us need a ride bigger than a 3 seater just to tote the fishing / hunting gear to the local sportsmans club. I have strapped my tackle box on the luggage rack of an MG once when partner picked me up in it...na...just doesn't work..and I could see my toolbox on the back of my bicycle...is why they invented motors...our local club mascot is 30 and still gets around on his bicycle....fishing gear and all ...we unwind the line from the spokes and sprockets all the time....not for me...you and everyone else knows very well what is going on...the WAR....and we might be winning the battle but the arabs are winning the war...they are out to destroy us and this is the best way..oil....I have a nuke power plant only 10 miles from home..and 2 hydro electric stations only 3 blocks from my house..electric is going up still...they say have to pay for the plants...yea right...fill my pockets...is what it is all about....no matter if in the mill or in a suit.....hurray for me and he$$ with the next guy....seems to be the new American way of life....meanwhile, I sit at my camper at the club only 10 miles from here because too expensive to take it anywhere and say...It is still the best darn place in the world to live in...USA |

How about a little perspective here.
1980. Gas was $1 a gallon. A candy bar was $.25 and a coke out of a machine was $.25. A pay telephone call was $.10. 2005. A candy bar is $.69. A coke in a machine is $.75-$1.00 and a pay phone call is $.50. According to that... Gas Should be $2.50-$3.00 a gallon. Why SHOULD gasoline be immune to the SAME INFLATION that affects everything else? Gas prices have been artificially LOW for 2 decades. They are just now evening out, and people are in a tizzy. Plus... $.75/gal of the cost of gasoline is TAXES! Get a grip people! Jabba |
Americans are plain soft.
I quit a good paying job 3 years ago to go out on my own and see what I could do. The last three years haven't been easy and I have been working a lot more than I did at the firm, if that is humanly possible. Like I said, I read a book about World War II over my honeymoon and it seems as though the entire World War II events are starting again, just with different characters. Ten years before World War II, the USA suffered the Great Depression and everybody had the feeling that we should take care of our own problems before looking for others in Europe and the Pacific. Problem is that the problems found us via Pearl Harbor. Then, the Germans and the Japanese were heading to take over the Middle East and that was a huge concern for us. Today, can you imagine how pissed off China and Russia would be if we took over the Middle East? China is already pissed that Congress is getting involved in a oil company purchase because we are saying it is a matter of national security, which it probably is. Lets keep in mind that both Russia and China have nukes. Bottom line is that Americans have to suck it up and learn to drive less or use tavel means that are more gas friendly. Gas in Europe was close to $5 a gallon back in 2001 when I visited, but the economic situation didn't seem to be too bad over there. They learned to deal with it. I have a 2003 F-350, a 1989 5.0 Mustang, a 1998 Taurus and I drive the Taurus way more than any of them because of the gas situation. The truck only has 3,800 miles on it. The wife has a Hyundai Sonata that gets about the same gas mileage as the Taurus, maybe a little better. If you commute a lot and need a truck for work, you need to seriously consider how much of your time is wasted driving and how much money is wasted on gas. If you get a lower paying job that requires a lot less driving, you will save on gas, your vehicle will last longer, and you will have more free time. In the end, it is up to your personal goals. I had one client, a body man, that was driving 2 hours each way for work because he made more money where he was working and homes cost a lot less where he was living. However, he went through cars left and right, got plenty of speeding tickets, lost his license, etc. It might not have been worth it. I know that the wife and I will be getting a hybrid when we have to replace one of the cars. Hopefully, the technology will be really good by then. Or in the alternative, we will get a diesel. Right now, we are looking at the Escape Hybrid and hoping that the make an Explorer or Expedition hybrid in the future. Personally, I would buy the Escursion in diesel, but the wife doesn't want to drive something that big. The issue of taking over the Middle East isn't that simple. Yes, sometimes I think the entire world would be better off if it were under US rule, but I am probably biased. Do you guys really want to go through a World War over oil? |
Fabs said, "Do you guys really want to go through a World War over oil?"
Not really, but, we may not have a choice. :( You know, when all this oil crunch business started up, people were screaming about the oil compaies "obscene" profits. From what I've been reading lately, gas prices continue to rise and the oil companies profits are rising even faster. Is there something wrong with this picture? It used to be said that, "What was good for General Motors was good for the country." Maybe we should rephrase that to, "What is good for the oil companies is BAD for the country!" Just another example of corporate greed, my friends. They could back off a bit on their profits, which would be good for the country. Of course, the stock holders in their greed would raise all kinds of hell. Remember, they're the haves, and we're the have nots. The problem is, in their greed, thay are destroying the best country that ever existed, and I don't like it. Don't expect the government to do anything about it. After all, the big corporations have the best government they can buy. Paul B. as hell! |

I hear ya Wolvie.
I hear all this talk about public transportation. What public transportation? Where I live, I have to drive. Alot. Usually over 40,000 miles per year. If I wanna keep doing what Im doing, and I do. Hell, its over two miles just to go to a convenience store. My wife has to drive approx 55 miles per day to work. The town closest to us, you cant get a job paying over about $10 per hour, unless your a professional or lucky enough to get into management at one of the few places that do have management positions. If we all needed to utilize public transportation, in the real world, we would all have to live in cities. NO THANKS. We have had that discussion before and I would rather go back to horses than do that. As for all the cars, I put a pencil to that. I thought that was the way to go. I could use a car for work and keep my truck just for pulling my camper, boat and hunting. Wont work. If I bought a cheaper driving car that got better fuel mileage, it would be worn out way before it ever paid for itself in fuel. Thats factoring in the cost of the car, insurance and the fuel it burns compared to what my truck burns. Jabba, With all do respect, BS. Rising fuel costs result in rising shipping which results in higher candy bars and higher sodas. Im not against oil companies making a profit. They should, just like everyone else. But they dont have to completely shaft us and get all the money. Which is where its headed. Wolvie, I dont think we got a choice but to fight WWIII. I think we are already doing it. I dont necessarily think its going to be over oil, but that will no doubt be a factor. I dont want it on our soil though, for several reasons. One, Im selfish. I dont want what I have worked for to be lost in war. And, historically, it seems to me that whoevers turf wars are fought on, lose. I would rather take the fight to them. I do think some of it will be (already has been) fought on our soil. JMO. I also think we need to toughen up a bit. When we whip someones butt that has a load of oil, we get cheap oil. Dont have to rob them, just get whats coming to us. They can still make money. Thats why I dont understand why were not getting cheap oil from Iraq and Kuwait. Andy |
Quote:
You surely don't think that the cost of fuel has driven the cost of everything up as much as it has gone do you? You make a good point that rising fuel costs DO drive up the cost of a candy bar... but it does not make it triple. So what WOULD be ok? SHOULD gas prices stay at $1 forever even though people are making 3 times as much money? What's reasonable? Don't get me wrong here either fellas. I think we SHOULD be stomping holes in the middle east. I also think we should be building nuke plants, and developing electric and hydrogen delivery systems so we can get off foreign oil, and tell them to shove their oil up their collective arses. Our biggest battle, IMO is within this country. You're all right... the politicians have got to go. I am not advocating an armed revolution though. What we need to do, and CAN do is fire them all on election day. And we need to do it during the PRIMARIES. Many people will not vote against their party lines and I understand that. So... push the party to offer an alternative to the incumbent and fire him at primary time. Who has written their senators and congressmen in the last month? Do it. Ya'll have internet. Do a Google search on their name and you'll get a link to their official website and they all have means to e-mail them. DO it. Weekly. It only takes a second. Tell them what you want... and if they don't do it... FIRE them at the polls. Jabba |
Okay, you guys are killing me. It seems as though you want your cake and you want to eat it too. Yes, I live in the city, but I would prefer the country. I went out to Arizona and Nevada for my honeymoon and I saw land for sale at $100 an acre up to $175 an acre. I just paid $333,000 for my place last year which is a townhouse on .10 acres and it is now worth $420,000. In Arizona or Nevada, that would buy me one heck of a ranch with a decent sized house on it. I saw plenty of elk crossing and mountain goat crossing signs and would love to be out there hunting them.
Problem is that I cannot make any money out there. There aren't enough people that need legal or CPA services. So, for those of you crying about how far you live from your jobs and how bad the situation is where you live, get up and move. Don't complain that you live 100 miles away from work. That is a life style choice, especially if you want to live in the country. Why are there more jobs in the city? Probably because there are more people, more retailers, more construction, etc. For those of you wanting war, life is not as simple as it was 65 years ago when there were no nukes. If China fires nukes at us, who should we nuke after that? Should we only retaliate against China? If we only retaliated against China, Russia would probably come right into both countries and mop up. Should we also fire against Russia to set it back too? If so, Russia would fire against us and we would definitely be doomed, not to mention that most of the entire world would be suffering a fallout situation. I have no argument with us being in the Middle East and taking care of terrorism. What I have a problem with is you guys thinking that we can just park ourselves over there and take the oil without there being any repurcussions. Trust me, it is a delicate situation. As far as wanting war on our own soil, you have definitely lost your mind. I would never wish that on my own country. Sure, it would make it tougher for their supply line, but I am sure that plenty of people would be killed here and plenty of infrastructure would be lost. Regarding the rising oil prices, I thought there was something passed in the 1930's preventing price fixing and cartels. Seems as though Microsoft got sued over it lately and Bell got split up 20 years ago over it. How is it that the oil companies can get away with price fixing? It would seem that most of them are charging the same price for gas and there is absolutely no competition. If you are mad about the price of gas, start buying hybrids or electric cars. That will force the car manufacturers out there to make the cars. Does GM have a hybrid out yet? What about Chrysler? I find it completely apalling that Ford only has the Escape Hybrid. Meanwhile, the Japanese are turning out hybrid after hybrid like they turned out gas friendly cars in the late 70's and early 80's. That changed the automotive industry for sure and I think the Japanese will do it again. There already is the Honda Accord, the Honda Civic, the Toyota Prius, the Lexus SUV, and I am sure I am missing a bunch. Don't get mad, get even. Show the auto industry what you want and let the oil companies know they can go to hell. Of course, that would mean buying a new car and the price tag is slightly higher on the hybrids too. So, if you don't have the money, go back to the top where I talk about life style choices. Just as we do not have the right to health insurance, there is no right to hunting, fishing, vacationing, etc. These are all things that must be earned. My honeymoon was my first week long vacation in 3 years and I did barely any hunting last year. That was a lifestyle choice. |
Fabs... I'd LOVE to live in the country too... but like you... I can't make enough money there. And you are right... that is a lifestyle choice.
There are lots of us out here that WANT to live rural, but choose to live suburban or urban in order to minimize expenses and travel time while maximizing earnings. Fabs is right on... if you can't make a living where you are... MOVE. One of the GREAT things about America. If you don't WANT to move... deal with it. Anyone that can work, can get a job framing houses. It pays $10 to start and $15 real quick if you are a worker. The framing market is full of "undocumented guest workers" (Illegal aliens) that the contractors would love to let go and hire American workers. There ARE opportunities. Jabba |
Oh yeah... by the way, gas prices went down here today.
$2.39 to $2.08. Jabba |
I have several clients with employees just like Jabba referred to. The problem that they have is that they cannot find anybody else and they pay these guys between $10 and $15 an hour.
Personally, I think there are great places in America where manual laborers are needed. Hell, I make just as much money as an attorney/CPA as my brother does as a body man. However, he works smack dab in the middle of the city and it takes him over 30 minutes to drive 10 miles to work. There are plenty of oppotunities in the USA, but there are also small towns that are dying because they don't have much to offer or many people at all. Look at all the ghost towns left by miners out in the west. If you were living in one of these places as it was declining, you were SOL. I am sure that towns like that exist today. I am fortunate in that I live close to DC and there is a ton of federal money around here. Then again, it also creates a huge demand on housing and I have to pay that price when looking for a house. Gas also went down 14 cents here over the past couple of days. The oil companies might just be probing to see what the demand will be if they increase prices. |
* Gas Prices Here (upstate NY),..UPDATE*
Gas Prices here have basically settled at or around from $2.39 a gal to $2.53 a gal.
According where your at in the state, of course if you close to like Albany or New York City,...you`ll pay top $$$ a gal. And to just be curious, I would like to know how many of us make good living enough to move to another place in the US ,? Fabs,..And Jabba ,...I am led to believe you guys are in some real nice jobs and I don`t condemn you for that, instead I idolize you for it.I wish I was in a good career,...but I `m not ,.. I make under $14,500.00 a year. With my girlfriends SS money every month and the apartment we rent out we have an income of just under $35,000.00 a year. And that supports her,my 9 yr old son,her 17 yr old daughter (who works PT to pay for her own stuff),and all that mopney pays for everything like mortgage,heating/electric/phone/cable,phone/and gas for our 1 vechile and that doesn`t include food,..or anything else. Now how do I afford to go live in let`s say Albany NY ?! Where it alot higher to live,...I have another Question, where are all these $10.00 an hr jobs? I have been putting in resumes for months and most if not all are offering anywhere from $7.00 to $9.50 an hr.In this area anyways,..and if I want to "commute" about 65 mile (1 way),..I can make about $9.75 to $10.50 an hr. Now do you think it is feasable and finiancially right for me to drive 65 miles (1 way),...everyday (5 -6 days a wk),..and still be able to make it or make it even better? I say not,...because now I just increased my gas bill,....and not only that I am putting a hazard on my truck by driving it 650 to 845 miles a week. Now not only gas prices are high, but oil,and other fluids ,..and if that wasn`t enough how about parts and so on. I am not sure when it was that you last visited a auto parts store,...and I am not sure whether you grasp that vechiles run on more then just GAS ,...But if any of this escapes you or your budget you may want to consider the Full picture and not what is JUST at hand. As a CPA I am sure that your clients are given scopes of how and what they should look for in future and not always look at the present,.due to the flucuating price market on all goods and services. So meaning that your clients are more to stay where they are and deal with it like the rest of us,....( I am not being mean or disrepectful,..Fabs ur the best), I am just tryin to understand how the Blue Collar working man/woman can afford to up and move to a city life just to be even more broke?! As for WAR in this country,...on this land that we love,...it is going to happen for the plain and simple fact that Tax paying ,hard working Americans are growing tired of working and not having nothing to depend on,..and our goverment has let us down for so many years,...we aren`t appt to sit back much longer and allow our goverment to sympathize with the middle east murders,...You I want to point one more thing out before I close,..... Do you really know how to kill a country? Make em pay for every single thing imaginable,..... They are killing the USA and our goverment is helping them. As for the question from JABBA,...Yes I email our goverment officials that are in office,...but do you really think they read or care about anything that is sent to them,...NOT,..all I get back is a pretyped TY letter and a bunch of BS blown up my arse. While we are all out working ,..our goverment is out playing golf and taking cruises and St Thomas , Cancoon vacations. Later ALL SAFE HUNTIN~ |
