That was a real bummer to have your rifle sold like you describe. Was your Argentine a M1891 or 1909? At our local gun shop, the "Gun List" is on sale. The shop owner has his current issue of "Shotgun News" on the counter for any and all to view. I will check those publications on my next visit to the shop.
Gil was on the mark with his prices. A M1909 in Excellent condition would go for around $400-$500 here while the M1891 would fetch $350+. Carbines would be $50 to $100 more.
British Enfields start about $100 and go up depending on manufacturer and condition.
