The Argentine bolt rifles are 7.65x53MM and are fine rifles exhibiting Old World craftsmanship. There is the M1891 line of rifles, short rifles and carbines and the far stronger action M1909 rifles, short rifles and carbines. The value of these arms depends on condition. I prefer to use the NRA grades of Excellent, Very Good and Good. Besides condition, are the factors of matching numbers of bolt, receiver and cleaning rod and any other accessories such as issue sling, bayonet and cleaning kit. It is difficult to give a price without seeing the arm. Perhaps a view of a current issue of "Shotgun News" gun magazine or "Gun List" will give you a price range. Adam

Thanks Adam, I remember now after you set me straight, it was a 7.65, this was back in the early 70's I bought one for $35.00, it was in mint condition, my brother said he wanted it to keep in his collection, about a year after I had it. It shot true and being the good person I am, I thought, he's my brother so I sold it to him for what I'd payed for it. Little did I know, he had it sold before he got it off me, about a week after I sold it to my brother, a guy was telling me about this type of rifle, and I told him I use to have one like it, he said well, he had bought it off of my brother for $150.00 bucks, back then that was a damn good profit, needless to say, he never bought any more guns from me.

Adam gave your good advice. I have never seen The Shotgun News or Gun List for sale on local news stands. There are several gun auction websites that may be helpful and are free. They are: AuctionArms at www.auctionarms.com, GunsAmerica at www.Gunsamerica.com and Gunbroker at www.Gunbroker.com. Some of the prices are strange because it is an auction and there are often reserves set on the sale price. The local gun shop sells a lot of guns on these websites because he gets more for the guns than he would from regular customers.
To address your question, I recently bought a mint and matching Argentine 1909 for $250.00. British Enfields prices vary widely based on condition and usually sell for $100.00 to $200.00 around here. Hope this helps. All the best... Gil

That was a real bummer to have your rifle sold like you describe. Was your Argentine a M1891 or 1909? At our local gun shop, the "Gun List" is on sale. The shop owner has his current issue of "Shotgun News" on the counter for any and all to view. I will check those publications on my next visit to the shop. Gil was on the mark with his prices. A M1909 in Excellent condition would go for around $400-$500 here while the M1891 would fetch $350+. Carbines would be $50 to $100 more. British Enfields start about $100 and go up depending on manufacturer and condition. Adam
