Loaded for a month

Yes that is right, I loaded the rifle New Years weekend and shot the round off 5 weeks later. I loaded up for predator season, and called one grey fox in, that saw me put the gun up at 100 yds and left. I don't have kids in the house, and kept it in a basement closet behind the water softener, as a reminder to me that it was loaded. It went off nice and clean, put the 245gr. power belt right on the money at 75 yds, aimed it off a rest at the split of torn bark on a dead elm. I can't use my .243 for coyotes around the home place, too urban, but my .50 cal. is legal, but not any quieter.

hey fishdoggydog,

that's nothing, its a modern muzzleloader, I have yester-year style sidelocks here in virginia, we have a blackpowder season first two weeks of november, didn't see a single deer, left the rifle loaded and locked away, took it out in April and got a dandy turkey for spring gobbler season. And that was using regular a regular cap and loose powder.

Its all in how you store them(barrel down and no temp extremes, they cause barrel sweating)

best of luck

yeah they still go bang, a friend left the omega loaded from december to the following september and when it went off at 100yds it was right where he left it. its impressive, but i like having the thing empty and coated with something good on the inside of the bore when not in season.
