Not a question I hear often. LOL! Well BigBull, I have worked at Carlisle Tire and Wheel Co for 34 years, in various positions. We are one the largest manufacturer of lawn and garden, industrial, utility trailer and ATV tires in the United States. You are asking a big question. I don't know what is on your machine now, how you ride it, or what kind of riding you do, but the selection is fantastic. The tire size of your machine is usually based on a number similar to the following: 25x12-10. Just in case you don't know what that number means, I'll explain. Again, 25x12-10! The 25 means that the inflated tire is 25 inches high from the ground up. The 12 means that the tire is 12 inches wide "inflated" at the bead, and the 10 means that the machines wheel is 10 inches in diam. You have to stay with the last number unless you change wheels too. The front wheel and the back wheel are usually 2 different sizes. The front tire is typically narrower. Not always, just usually. Tire treads run the gauntlet from 1" square blocks over the whole tread area, to cross bars like a tractor tire. Each version has a following and that following swears by their favorite design. Now I'll give my favorite and I can get whatever design that I want. I've tested quite a few designs. I like Carlisles TRAIL WOLF design. I have those on my personal machine. I am a hunter and a trail rider, NOT a racer. The TRACTOR SUPPLY stores and the local WALL MART SUPER CENTER both handle our line of tires. You can go slightly bigger, height and width, both front and rear, but you need to understand the ATV factory has invested considerable time, effert, and money in getting the sizes right for the power range of your machine. Check out the Carlisle web site at www.carlisletire.com Hope this helps! Bill................

ATV Tires....

...BigBull, I own and operate a tire dealership. We sell, install, and repair a lot of ATV tires.

I agree with WCC about the Trail Wolf. I believe that it is one of the best replacement tires on the market. I sell several different brands of ATV tires, but the TW usually gets my recommendation, when a customer asks.

One note of caution: If your machine is a 4x4, it is easier if you keep the tires the same size as original equipment. If you do go to a larger size tire, all 4 tires will have to be up-sized by the same amount.

i have a honda foreman 450es. comes with 25s8/10 in the front and 25s/10/10 in the back i beleive, and i put 26/10/10 up front and 26/12/10 on the rear. it's full time 4x4 and electric shift and even with the bigger rubber i have tonnes of torque. never boggs down. like woody said every machine is diff and the manufacture usually did their home work. find someone with the same machine who has been there and done that. srry can't be of more help!
oh yeh i use ITP mud lites. they work great.

Bigbull, i average over 8,000 miles a year riding ATV`s, and have went through plenty of tires. What i look for first in a tire is that it have a 6 ply rating, of course they don`t provide as soft a ride as the OEM tires, but they wear longer, and are more resistant to punctures. Also, i usually buy the fastest utility 4X4 on the market each year, and those high horse power machines will roll the sidewalls of the OEM tires in a high speed turn, making them less stable than the 6 ply ones. The dirt devils hold up quite well and IMO can`t be beat for the money. Had a set on last years 700 prairie, suffered only a couple of punctures, and still had a lot of tread left when i traded it in. The biggest tires you can run with out tearing anything up, would have a lot to do with what kind of abuse you are going to subject your quad to. If you look for the deepest mud holes you can find every weekend, then you will put more strain on the drive train with the large mud tires, thats for sure. The belt and clutches are the first things to go in quads like the vinson you have, but if you only hit the deep stuff every once in a while, i doubt if you have any problems. I have run 26 inch tall tires since they came out, and hav`nt noticed any more wear and tear then with the 25 inchers, but i don`t go looking for mud unless there`s a deer or a cow involved. I just bought a 750 brute force a couple weeks ago, and it is a monster, (the 700 however, was nothing to sneeze at). Although it feels a little "tippy" with the OEM`s, I`m going to try a set of 27 inchers, just to fill up the wheel wells. There, you asked, lol.
