chuck my 270wsm for leo scope???

ive been debateing latly wether or not i should get red of my wsm to fund the glass for my 22/50.

ive got my 270win that will fill the wsms shoes nicely. but i cant seem to talk my self into partying with it. today i was ready. i was gona take it to my gunshop buddy and see how much id lose my but on it. payed right at 700 bucks for it set up with leo rings id like atleast 500 for it. that might be pushn it for used unscope rifle. but id give it up with dies and all. butr still havent completly talked myself into it.

one day im at work and all ready to do it then a few hours later im thinkn im crazy, lol i dunno i hate getn rid of good guns.

i also cant see dropn almost 900 cash for scope either when i basicaly have two 270wins, just ones got short fat case and shoots balisticaly about identical to the other.

what to do. lol and i would never harp on myself for havn two 22/250s, gota have one set up with highpower glass and the other as my walk around rig.

what do you think. give it up or keep the wsm and try and save the 900

Which .270 do you like better? What scope are you going to get? I'm guessing you can't get much for your .270 Win? As far as parting with one of the rifles goes...think about the fact that another one of your rifles needs a scope, and isn't very useful without one. Besides if you're spending 900 on a scope it's going to be a pretty awesome set up that should justify letting one of the other rifles go for. You make a good point about about having two different .22-250's that serve different purposes, but it's not the same scenario with your two different .270's. I think it is good to have an arsenal that fills niches well without a lot of overlap, at least for those on a budget or those who like the idea of being very proficient with the few rifles that they have...the whole fear the man with one rifle idea...

id never get rid of my 270win, my father gave it to me when i was very young, todate ive taken all of my big game with it, 7 bucks and one bull elk, thats about 8 years worth of hunting here in idaho.

8.5-25x50 vxIII lr is what im wanting to get for my heavy 22/250.

i currently have 3 rifles unglassed. and 3 that are, my 270win and 270wsm both wear leo 3-9x40vxIIs and my 2506 has 4.5-14 vxIII on top of it.

my 270win with out a doubt will do anything and everything that the same wsm wil do. they are pretty near identical.

Hey Evan,
My father gave me my .270 Win as well, and I'd never part with it either. It wears the same scope as your 25-06. I got it right about when the WSM's debutted, but being left handed they weren't an option for me. A few years later and more left handed options available in the WSM I'm glad that I have mine chambered in .270 Win.
Anyway, I'd definitely opt for getting rid of the WSM to get your scope.

Evan?

How far you plan on shooting with the 22-250? unless its beyond 1000 yds do you really need the 8.5x25 30mm tube? you could get a 6.5x20 with target turrets and get to 700 yds, the 6.5x20 with target turrets have .125 MOA clicks and over 40 MOA of adjustment (I think). Oh and just FYI the 6x18 loopy with target turrets have .192 MOA click adjustments. Most folks swear by the 4.5x14 to 1000 yds.

i want the 50mm objective for low light shooting, ill shoot rock chucks and coyotes late enough that ill be walking back to truck after dark..

the 6.5-20x50vxIII Lr is only bout 40 bucks less than the same 8.5-25x50 vxIII lr. anything iver 18 powe i want to have a 50mm bell.

the scope will be used to as fr as i can acurately use the tool(my vs sf) no more than 600yds for now, but keep in mind im shooting at targets that weigh under 2lbs and stand only between 6-8"s tall. as far as i can tell alot of you guys seem to have some pretty big ground squrels. imiagine tryn to find this bugger at 600yds with 9 power scope. youd be able to find it till you get ready to shoot and cross hairs cover its entire body.

the 4.5-14 vxIII is my most favorite scope. illl have another before everythings siad and done. i cncider it to be one of the best all around scope that you can get.

as far as 1000 yd matched and plinking. i think ill leave that to you guys and keep my 25 power leo cranked to its highest setting while dropn rock chucks and ground squrels at 300yds and alittle further.

im saveing my ruger 22/250 as my all around varmitiging hunting rig. til wear glass with half as much power as the heavy 22/250. either a 3-9 loe. 14 power or 6-18. for some reason i think this rifle is calling for the 6-18, even though the vs sf is despiseing it and keeps pushn it away.

there is also possibility that i may get bored with the 25 power on the 250 and it may makes its way to the 300win for my go at long range shooting. but thats aways of. for now 3.5-10 will be just dandy on the 300win hntin rig

thanks fr the replu. you got me thinkn some

Evan

Hey Ridge, 700yds with a 6-20X ? The Marine snipers train with
10X glass out to 1000m. The more I shoot with my high power
glass the more I dislike it. Figuring in things such as mirage etc
the more that I am satisfied with less magnification. That's why
5 of my 8 rifles sport Nikon Monarch 4-12X's. Power is great
for glassing but it ain't worth a damn for shooting. The more that
you shoot at distance in different weather, the faster you will
see the light. I have a NiteForce 8-40X56mm and I seldom shoot
over 20X. And that's on a winter day. In the heat over a hot PD
town, I rarely go over 10X. JMHO.

i know 10 power works very well, used one on my 220 to take some yotes in the 300yd ball park.

but on 10 power i have hard time shooting paper at 100yds the reticle will cover up a 1" dot, actualy all my leos right now have the standerd duplex, even the 14 power covers the 100yd dot.

my next scope will have the target dot or atleast the fine duplex.

the 4.5-14 is mounted to my 2506. the only time i turn the power down is when im in thicker cover or the suns already well on its way down. it realy is my opion whan of the most versitale variables.

i went to trade the wsm towards the scope today, shop was gona give me 500 for it to put towards the 8.5-25. but i backed out, i for some reason cant let the rifle go for nothin. ohhwell i guess im not meant to get rid of it.

they did bring a rem classic in 243 back from the gun show that i want. its old enough that it doesnt have the jlock. cant decide wether or not to pass on it. i almost dropped 200 bucks on it to put it on layway. i just might do that later. well that depends on how long the rifle last at the shop.

what to do what to do. i never know i just end up doing

Easy!

Don't sell the WSM, go buy the Leo, and at least put the .243 on layaway! Problem solved!
