leupold sunshade difference?

I had bought a sunshade for my leupold 4-12x40 AO with fine threads and it screwed in perfectly. However, recently I bought a 6-18x40 AOT and the sunshade won't screw into this scope, upon looking at the new scope, the threads were more coarse, not as fine as the 4-12 what's the deal? The sunshade is supposed to be compatible with all the x40 AO scopes. Could the AOT scopes have different threads than the AO line?

in 2004 they changed the scopes, at least with the Vari-X II line... so the sunshades wont fit...

You need old shades for an old scope, and new ones for a new scope.

I cant find any old shades to fit my older scope

Aaarrrrgg, figures. Guess I'm just gonna have to shell out more money for another one.

Just did a quick search in Cabelas and it looks like they have shades for pre 2005 and post 2005 scopes so you should still be able to get one for your older one.
