Another Police "Coverup"

Whilst not an AMERICAN speaker of English, with it's own nuances/oddities I find the topic title a little misleading(?). My ,possibly incorrect, understanding of "coverup" implied that the persons reporting an event,or even "spindoctoring" it were engaging in trying to mislead their audience,in this case the public, in this instance the only information which could vaguely be construed a as "coverup" relates to the police officer who used his body to shield the children from a convicted and possibly homicidal killer. Hardly what is usually construed as a coverup. WB
