Time to go...................

Well it's been a smidge more than a year, but it's time to go back to Germany, it's just not working out.

I'm only really sorry to say I got ONE lousy chance to hunt back in November just to get washed out, it was dumpin' buckets on us the whole time, didn't see a single deer.

I arrived with 13 total weapons and am down to one, and am selling it to go towards a plane ticket (in August I think). But the guy in Nuernberg is going to sell me my Mauser (7x64) back to me.

I feel like a sorry Ceaser, "I came, I saw, I went down in flambes!" But I did give it an honest shot.

I feel like Wolvie, on my 5th job with out any benifits and still living with friends and family........................ain't gonna cut it.

So when I go back I'll be sure to carry back every acessorie I can think of, rings and bases, and changing the majority of my scopes with european reticles if able.

But we will see.....................

Well to be honest I am happy aI tried and failed, rather than not trying at all. Now I wont have a life of 'What if I tried......' I know now and the doubt is gone.

It was a long learning process, but not a wasted one. Plus the thought of being back with my kids makes it worth it

Hey Jon, sorry to hear you didn't have better luck. That's half the battle, being in the right place at the right time. You must have a solid lead or a job already over here, because there's over 5 million (arbeitslose) unemployed and talk about cut throat.

I'm hanging on, but there's a tough road ahead -- US Army cutting from 60k to 20k soldiers in the next years over here. Have a safe move, Waidmannsheil, Dom.

I'm not throwing rocks, Jon, but I just find it hard to believe that your future is better in a country whose economy is tanking - and can't make it where the economy is booming.

That just blows my mind, my friend.

Still, you should be with your kids, no matter what. I sincerely wish you the best.

In recent years this has finally started to reach levels where the US industrial displacement in a post-recession and 911/paranoid economy has become painfully noticeable. Millions of lucrative US manufacturing jobs have been lost, while many surviving businesses struggle or are also contemplating relocation abroad of at least part of their production.

Politically, this hasn't gone unnoticed, as concentrated pain in the US heartland has filtered upwards through the House of Representatives, the Senate and the Presidency whose main backers today are mid-Westerners.
Is the US economy really booming?

Jon,

I wish you all the luck possible. Did you come back to the US to be with your children or are your kids in Germany? I thought your kids were over here in the US, but I could be mistaken.

The kids are in Germany. Because of EC (not German) laws, I can't bring them here to visit agenst my wifes wishes. They have never seen Oklahoma, nor any of the US.

She (the frau) made it very-very clear while I was here about my kids NOT coming to see me.

So I am going to the mountian that can't come to me.

Plus my German boss said my job is always avilable for me when I get back. But I'm going to see if Graf or Hohenfels has lower levil US jobs first, since I am now SOFA eligable.

By the way guys, thanks for the nice and positave responce, my family (US type) is cussin' me up a storm, and questioning my patrotic being.

For some home is where you hang your hat, mine is where my children are.

JON

I ADMIRE YOU AND YOUR ACTIONS ARE TRULY COMMENDABLE. AFTER ALL, PRACTICALLY ANY MAN CAN SIRE CHILDREN BUT IT TAKES A REEEEEAL MAN TO WANT TO BE A PARTICIPANT IN THEIR UPBRINGING.

JUST A QUESTION, HOW DOES SOFA APPLY TO YOU? I WAS STATIONED AT BITBURG AND ZWEIBRUCKEN WHEN I WAS THERE. TO ME THAT AREA IS THE PRETTIEST IN GERMANY. WHEN I WAS STATIONED AT BITBURG MY FAMILY AND I LIVED IN A LITTLE TOWN CALLED NIEDERSTADEM JUST UP THE ROAD FROM THE LUX BORDER. I REALLY LIKED IT THERE.

ONE OTHER QUESTION, DOES YOU WIFE ALLOW A LOT OF INNER ACTION WITH YOUR CHILDREN? I CAN SAY THAT I MIGHT UNDERSTAND SOME OF YOUR WIFES FEELINGS ABOUT ALLOWING THE KIDS TO VISIT THE STATES. SHES JUST NOT TAKING ANY CHANCES. AGREEMENTS BETWEEN TWO COUNTRIES LIKE AGREEMENTS BETWEEN TWO INDIVIDUALS CAN SOMETIMES BECOME FRAZZLED.

TRINKEN EIN BITBURGER PILS FUR MIR BITTE.

IF GOD CREATED ANYTHING BETTER THAN BITBURGER PILS, MOSEL WINE AND WOMEN HE KEPT IT TO HIMSELF.

Bosveldjag,

The US has next to no unemployment, next to no inflation and practically zero interest rates. New housing is so hot it's hard to find even day laborers.

The headlines you read are crap - the product of extreme media types who only want to unseat our current President and install a socialist government.

I don't know of a country in better shape.

Billy,

Once you get a German work permit, after one calender year you can no longer work for US Forces, and the LAW STATES YOU (THE MILITARY) CAN NOT TELL THE ETSing SERVICE MEMBER!!! It is a stipulation of the SOFA agreement.

But if you (I mean me) return to country of origin AFTER you cancil your work permit for one year, he/she may apply for a USAEUR employment position.

It's been a full year and I'm going to try for a low to no levil job, maybe even a PX Before I go back to the German economy.

On my wife.........................well she's not the same woman I married. The US went from 'a possiablity' to "Not a chance in hell" I don't really see much of a future for us. But if I am in Germany should we get divorced, I will have almost equall rights to my children.

German law states a parent MUST allow full visitation of foregin parent. But the Germans signed this agreement with the US, just as they honored the European Common rule of no parent shall take a child from country of birth (provided the child is a citizen of that country) with out full written concent of both parents. I know I have seen the forms many times.

So by law she has to allow me to bring my kids to the US, but the EC loophole lets her say no..........................so the Germans can give lip service "It's not our fault."

I could tell you horror stories of American friends who got shafted.

And Koenig Luedwig Dunkel rules!!!!
followed by Veltins, then Warsteiner, and the list is rounded off by Zirndorfer Hell.

And our wine consist of any red Greek Imiglikos, or Romainian Scharchmadtchen, or Semi-sweet Spainish red............"Now that's good drinkin'" Gotta wash that gyros and fetta down with something!"

HI

USED TO HAVE TO COUNSEL MY YOUNGER TROOPS ABOUT MARRYING GERMAN GIRLS AND THE REPERCUSSIONS OF WHAT CAN HAPPEN AFTER THEY MARRIED THEM.

LIKE THE OLD "I DON'T WANT TO LEAVE MY FAMILY BIT." IT HAPPENED TOO MANY TIMES. BUT YOU CAN LEAD A HORSE TO WATER, BUT YOU CAN'T MAKE HIM DRINK.

I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO KNOWLEDGE OF THE SOFA AGREEMENTS IN THAT RESPECT. NOR THE EUROPEAN COMMON RULES. SOUNDS LIKE THEY HAVE A GI BY THE SHORT HAIRS.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOUR FIELD OF ENDEAVOR OR WHAT FORMAL TRAINING YOU HAVE BUT YOU SHOULD HAVE PREFERENCE POINTS AT A MILITARY INSTALLATION BEING A VET AND ALL.

GOOD LUCK BUD IN THE FUTURE.

Rocky,
I sincerely hope the US economy will really 'boom' soon - will be to our benefit as well!!!

But these are the real facts that you must face:

Quote:
US current account gap hits a record
June 20, 2005

By Rob Lever

Washington - US debt pushed into uncharted territory as the current account deficit widened in the first quarter to a record $195.1 billion, the commerce department reported on Friday, June 17, 2005.

The report, which represents the broadest measure of trade and capital flows, was bigger than the $190 billion expected on Wall Street and represented 6.4 percent of US gross domestic product.

It was also wider than the $188.4 billion in the fourth quarter of 2004, a figure revised upward from an earlier estimate of $187.9 billion.

The growth in the current account highlights fears of economists that Americans are spending more than they are producing, and puts pressure on the dollar.

Along with the US budget deficit, which hit $413 billion in the past fiscal year, the "twin deficits" require foreigners to pump money into the US at an unprecedented rate.

Some experts fear these imbalances are unsustainable and that at some point foreigners may reduce their dollar holdings, forcing US interest rates higher.

Other analysts said they saw no quick turnaround in the current account deficit, with global growth slowing.
Your observations are correct, though not sustainable for long!

Sorry, but this is your 'commerce department's' report - think again!
