Fabs said, "Do you guys really want to go through a World War over oil?"
Not really, but, we may not have a choice. ![]() You know, when all this oil crunch business started up, people were screaming about the oil compaies "obscene" profits. From what I've been reading lately, gas prices continue to rise and the oil companies profits are rising even faster. Is there something wrong with this picture? It used to be said that, "What was good for General Motors was good for the country." ![]() ![]() Don't expect the government to do anything about it. After all, the big corporations have the best government they can buy. Paul B. ![]() |

Fabs,....I`d have to say,.....
YES!!!!
I am ready to fight for what I got and what I want,...and for anything else that is rightious. At least I wont be killing because I took a PLANE FLYING course and then crash it into a big oppps! 2 Big Buildings,....and I wont be killing our childern and women for not walking forty paces behind their men,..with vails on or for not being dressed in black head to toe,... INSTEAD<>>>>>>!!!! I`d be killing to keep my FREEDOM,my livelyhood,MY OIL,...And I would ask God to allow this "World War " to happen right here on our Soil!!! So that way,....We as American Citizens can show the whimps that spit on us for helping and dying for them that this is the way you protect and keep your country,... Not by allowing dectators to tell you a bunch of BS and then rise up and strike down their very own people. **And one more thing,....Taking a closer job? Taking a lower paying job?,...** Fabs,.....Please dont get upset with me,...But where the heck you livin` Bro!? I live in a small town, theres nothing here,...you "HAVE" to drive a car, truck ,whatever. As for a lower paying job,... tried that too bro,...not only did I get a lower paying job,..but they reduced my hours to 29 hrs a week! I have a family and pay child support,..Now how am I suppose to live on that and support a family on $7.00 an hr at 29 hrs a week, with Child support deductions of $about 100.00 a wk being deducted???!!!So after my 29 hr wk @ $7.00 for a grand total of $203.00 (GROSS)< then reduced by $100.00 for child support<then reduced by taxes, lets say another $35.00,So lets see that leaves ole Wolvie about $68.00 a wk to pay on his home, lights, heating, phone, and put food on the table. I`ll make a suggestion ,...come live my life,...walk in my shoes,...You`ll see that "REALITY" is here,...and theres no gravy train in these parts. And there is simply NO WAY in HE@@ I will go 50 -60 miles looking for work ,because no one wants to pay you for anything,...hourly or not mileage or not,..NOTHING and thats why I am so GOD D@()()# Ticked off right now,...I am about to lose everything because there is just nothing here,...I cant even go out and make $500.00 to move back to Ohio, let alone make it here. We are all screwed,....unless we are all aloud to fight for our Right as a FREE Citizen of AMERICA!!!!! OR paid for what we are worth which is alot more then min. wage of $5.15 an hr. or even $7.00 an hr.Heck that wont buy ya much unless your a kid and live with mommy and daddy and have NO bills!!! Later All SAFE HUNTIN~

I hear ya Wolvie.
I hear all this talk about public transportation. What public transportation? Where I live, I have to drive. Alot. Usually over 40,000 miles per year. If I wanna keep doing what Im doing, and I do. Hell, its over two miles just to go to a convenience store. My wife has to drive approx 55 miles per day to work. The town closest to us, you cant get a job paying over about $10 per hour, unless your a professional or lucky enough to get into management at one of the few places that do have management positions. If we all needed to utilize public transportation, in the real world, we would all have to live in cities. NO THANKS. We have had that discussion before and I would rather go back to horses than do that. As for all the cars, I put a pencil to that. I thought that was the way to go. I could use a car for work and keep my truck just for pulling my camper, boat and hunting. Wont work. If I bought a cheaper driving car that got better fuel mileage, it would be worn out way before it ever paid for itself in fuel. Thats factoring in the cost of the car, insurance and the fuel it burns compared to what my truck burns. Jabba, With all do respect, BS. Rising fuel costs result in rising shipping which results in higher candy bars and higher sodas. Im not against oil companies making a profit. They should, just like everyone else. But they dont have to completely shaft us and get all the money. Which is where its headed. Wolvie, I dont think we got a choice but to fight WWIII. I think we are already doing it. I dont necessarily think its going to be over oil, but that will no doubt be a factor. I dont want it on our soil though, for several reasons. One, Im selfish. I dont want what I have worked for to be lost in war. And, historically, it seems to me that whoevers turf wars are fought on, lose. I would rather take the fight to them. I do think some of it will be (already has been) fought on our soil. JMO. I also think we need to toughen up a bit. When we whip someones butt that has a load of oil, we get cheap oil. Dont have to rob them, just get whats coming to us. They can still make money. Thats why I dont understand why were not getting cheap oil from Iraq and Kuwait. Andy |

Quote:
You surely don't think that the cost of fuel has driven the cost of everything up as much as it has gone do you? You make a good point that rising fuel costs DO drive up the cost of a candy bar... but it does not make it triple. So what WOULD be ok? SHOULD gas prices stay at $1 forever even though people are making 3 times as much money? What's reasonable? Don't get me wrong here either fellas. I think we SHOULD be stomping holes in the middle east. I also think we should be building nuke plants, and developing electric and hydrogen delivery systems so we can get off foreign oil, and tell them to shove their oil up their collective arses. Our biggest battle, IMO is within this country. You're all right... the politicians have got to go. I am not advocating an armed revolution though. What we need to do, and CAN do is fire them all on election day. And we need to do it during the PRIMARIES. Many people will not vote against their party lines and I understand that. So... push the party to offer an alternative to the incumbent and fire him at primary time. Who has written their senators and congressmen in the last month? Do it. Ya'll have internet. Do a Google search on their name and you'll get a link to their official website and they all have means to e-mail them. DO it. Weekly. It only takes a second. Tell them what you want... and if they don't do it... FIRE them at the polls. Jabba

Okay, you guys are killing me. It seems as though you want your cake and you want to eat it too. Yes, I live in the city, but I would prefer the country. I went out to Arizona and Nevada for my honeymoon and I saw land for sale at $100 an acre up to $175 an acre. I just paid $333,000 for my place last year which is a townhouse on .10 acres and it is now worth $420,000. In Arizona or Nevada, that would buy me one heck of a ranch with a decent sized house on it. I saw plenty of elk crossing and mountain goat crossing signs and would love to be out there hunting them.
Problem is that I cannot make any money out there. There aren't enough people that need legal or CPA services. So, for those of you crying about how far you live from your jobs and how bad the situation is where you live, get up and move. Don't complain that you live 100 miles away from work. That is a life style choice, especially if you want to live in the country. Why are there more jobs in the city? Probably because there are more people, more retailers, more construction, etc. For those of you wanting war, life is not as simple as it was 65 years ago when there were no nukes. If China fires nukes at us, who should we nuke after that? Should we only retaliate against China? If we only retaliated against China, Russia would probably come right into both countries and mop up. Should we also fire against Russia to set it back too? If so, Russia would fire against us and we would definitely be doomed, not to mention that most of the entire world would be suffering a fallout situation. I have no argument with us being in the Middle East and taking care of terrorism. What I have a problem with is you guys thinking that we can just park ourselves over there and take the oil without there being any repurcussions. Trust me, it is a delicate situation. As far as wanting war on our own soil, you have definitely lost your mind. I would never wish that on my own country. Sure, it would make it tougher for their supply line, but I am sure that plenty of people would be killed here and plenty of infrastructure would be lost. Regarding the rising oil prices, I thought there was something passed in the 1930's preventing price fixing and cartels. Seems as though Microsoft got sued over it lately and Bell got split up 20 years ago over it. How is it that the oil companies can get away with price fixing? It would seem that most of them are charging the same price for gas and there is absolutely no competition. If you are mad about the price of gas, start buying hybrids or electric cars. That will force the car manufacturers out there to make the cars. Does GM have a hybrid out yet? What about Chrysler? I find it completely apalling that Ford only has the Escape Hybrid. Meanwhile, the Japanese are turning out hybrid after hybrid like they turned out gas friendly cars in the late 70's and early 80's. That changed the automotive industry for sure and I think the Japanese will do it again. There already is the Honda Accord, the Honda Civic, the Toyota Prius, the Lexus SUV, and I am sure I am missing a bunch. Don't get mad, get even. Show the auto industry what you want and let the oil companies know they can go to hell. Of course, that would mean buying a new car and the price tag is slightly higher on the hybrids too. So, if you don't have the money, go back to the top where I talk about life style choices. Just as we do not have the right to health insurance, there is no right to hunting, fishing, vacationing, etc. These are all things that must be earned. My honeymoon was my first week long vacation in 3 years and I did barely any hunting last year. That was a lifestyle choice.

Fabs... I'd LOVE to live in the country too... but like you... I can't make enough money there. And you are right... that is a lifestyle choice.
There are lots of us out here that WANT to live rural, but choose to live suburban or urban in order to minimize expenses and travel time while maximizing earnings. Fabs is right on... if you can't make a living where you are... MOVE. One of the GREAT things about America. If you don't WANT to move... deal with it. Anyone that can work, can get a job framing houses. It pays $10 to start and $15 real quick if you are a worker. The framing market is full of "undocumented guest workers" (Illegal aliens) that the contractors would love to let go and hire American workers. There ARE opportunities. Jabba

I have several clients with employees just like Jabba referred to. The problem that they have is that they cannot find anybody else and they pay these guys between $10 and $15 an hour.
Personally, I think there are great places in America where manual laborers are needed. Hell, I make just as much money as an attorney/CPA as my brother does as a body man. However, he works smack dab in the middle of the city and it takes him over 30 minutes to drive 10 miles to work. There are plenty of oppotunities in the USA, but there are also small towns that are dying because they don't have much to offer or many people at all. Look at all the ghost towns left by miners out in the west. If you were living in one of these places as it was declining, you were SOL. I am sure that towns like that exist today. I am fortunate in that I live close to DC and there is a ton of federal money around here. Then again, it also creates a huge demand on housing and I have to pay that price when looking for a house. Gas also went down 14 cents here over the past couple of days. The oil companies might just be probing to see what the demand will be if they increase prices.

* Gas Prices Here (upstate NY),..UPDATE*
Gas Prices here have basically settled at or around from $2.39 a gal to $2.53 a gal.
According where your at in the state, of course if you close to like Albany or New York City,...you`ll pay top $$$ a gal. And to just be curious, I would like to know how many of us make good living enough to move to another place in the US ,? Fabs,..And Jabba ,...I am led to believe you guys are in some real nice jobs and I don`t condemn you for that, instead I idolize you for it.I wish I was in a good career,...but I `m not ,.. I make under $14,500.00 a year. With my girlfriends SS money every month and the apartment we rent out we have an income of just under $35,000.00 a year. And that supports her,my 9 yr old son,her 17 yr old daughter (who works PT to pay for her own stuff),and all that mopney pays for everything like mortgage,heating/electric/phone/cable,phone/and gas for our 1 vechile and that doesn`t include food,..or anything else. Now how do I afford to go live in let`s say Albany NY ?! Where it alot higher to live,...I have another Question, where are all these $10.00 an hr jobs? I have been putting in resumes for months and most if not all are offering anywhere from $7.00 to $9.50 an hr.In this area anyways,..and if I want to "commute" about 65 mile (1 way),..I can make about $9.75 to $10.50 an hr. Now do you think it is feasable and finiancially right for me to drive 65 miles (1 way),...everyday (5 -6 days a wk),..and still be able to make it or make it even better? I say not,...because now I just increased my gas bill,....and not only that I am putting a hazard on my truck by driving it 650 to 845 miles a week. Now not only gas prices are high, but oil,and other fluids ,..and if that wasn`t enough how about parts and so on. I am not sure when it was that you last visited a auto parts store,...and I am not sure whether you grasp that vechiles run on more then just GAS ,...But if any of this escapes you or your budget you may want to consider the Full picture and not what is JUST at hand. As a CPA I am sure that your clients are given scopes of how and what they should look for in future and not always look at the present,.due to the flucuating price market on all goods and services. So meaning that your clients are more to stay where they are and deal with it like the rest of us,....( I am not being mean or disrepectful,..Fabs ur the best), I am just tryin to understand how the Blue Collar working man/woman can afford to up and move to a city life just to be even more broke?! As for WAR in this country,...on this land that we love,...it is going to happen for the plain and simple fact that Tax paying ,hard working Americans are growing tired of working and not having nothing to depend on,..and our goverment has let us down for so many years,...we aren`t appt to sit back much longer and allow our goverment to sympathize with the middle east murders,...You I want to point one more thing out before I close,..... Do you really know how to kill a country? Make em pay for every single thing imaginable,..... They are killing the USA and our goverment is helping them. As for the question from JABBA,...Yes I email our goverment officials that are in office,...but do you really think they read or care about anything that is sent to them,...NOT,..all I get back is a pretyped TY letter and a bunch of BS blown up my arse. While we are all out working ,..our goverment is out playing golf and taking cruises and St Thomas , Cancoon vacations. Later ALL SAFE HUNTIN~

Wolvie... I sympathize man. I really do. I have been broke. I lived in a house for almost a year without electricity. Living on beans and mac and cheese. My wide and I actually had an arguement once about the fact that I spent $.50 on a can of pop. Things are better for me now. I am an HVAC designer. I work in an office, and I make a comfortable living. Substantially less than my wife. (Which is cool by me)
People do what they have to do to make ends meet. In Indianapolis, the housing market is booming. We have more mexicans here than you could swat with a fly swatter all day long. They are framing houses, finishing drywall, laying block, and working in agriculture. The going rate for them is $10/hr. I have a friend that runs his own framing crew. He starts laborers at $10/hr and most of the guys on his crew make $15. Granted this is without benefits. Dude I know it's tough, and I know you don't want to move. If you're in a home that you own... that is really tough... if you are renting... find a job somewhere else, pack your stuff and move there. Thats sucks... but sometimes life sucks. The economy has become global. We have to compete with the mexicans now. It's a fact. Why WOULD a company want to pay an American worker $15/hr plus benefits when they can pay a mexican $3/hr without? As bad as that deal is... you have to deal man. If I was elected benevolent dictator for life, one of the 1st things I'd do is clamp down on the borders and send the illegals out. But I am not... so we have to live with what our pansy leaders are doing, or not doing rather. As far as writing them... you, in NY, have some sucky senators. Keep trying to get them fired... but you are pretty much at the mercy of NYC. Jabba

All Well said Bro,...
I am on your level as I am with Fabs,..
I guess I am just more ticked off then some and now it is coming down to alot of losses,...and I am just really,REALLY tired of losing!! You know what I mean?! I have worked hard in my life as well as others have,...I am 42 yrs old,.. I can`t wait for or hestitate in anyway to get my life "BACK" on track. And NY has done this to me. Alot of my friends tell me to go back to driving big truck,...15 yrs ago,...sure I sure would consider it,...but now!I just don`t know if that would help or hurt me and my family.? It looks at this point as soon as I can raise $500.00 I will be moving to Ohio and leaving my girlfriend who owns this house we live in,...She just can`t give up what she got crippled for and I can`t ask her to do that. So not only do I lose a good home and life with her, I lose her as well. I can get a job in Ohio,..that pays (to start),$11 to $12.50 an hr), and that`s with no experience. But the same job here in NY only pays $10.50 an hr and is harder then Hell to get into.I have applied at least 7 times in 6 months.I had 2 interviews and that was it,...another place couldn`t allow me to stay employed because ,.GET THIS CRAP! , I didnt have a bank account for "Direct Deposit". I was like WHAT!!!! I spent like $450.00 to go to the classes,.money I didnt even have , I sold my side job,..my riding mower to go do this crap,..and they gave me that BS,...So I took a cashier job , can u believe that SH$$ !!! A cashier! and only to have my hours cut to 29 hours a wk.at $7.00 an hr. I pay out $100.00 a wk for child support,..then there`s taxes,..If I would have stayed there i would have been bringing home a $35 to $45.00 pay check.Who in the -------- can live on that?!!! I tell you all,..I have worked harder looking for something then I have actually worked. It is hard and the COLD HARD Truth of it all,...I have to do what i gotta do,...I gotta move to where the work is,..and SUCK on it!! I tell you all this as well,....I PRAY and BEG and PLEAD for God to allow a war in this country,...So I can get my justice,...on those who have oppressed me and my family and friends,..I know i sound crazy,...BUT I am venting,...and I just cant understand how this country is going to the dogs and theres nothing anyone of us can do about it.THAT just SUX!! I am very sorry everyone,....I needed to RANT and VENT,..even though it will do no good,...I hope that no one is or was offended by what i said,..and I would not blame HuntChat Mods if they deleted this POST or even kicked me out,...but i am an American ,.and like the other Millions of Americans I am just so drained on losing. Later All SAFE HUNTIN~

Wolvie,
No problem with the ranting, but you might want to turn it into positive energy instead of all this negative stuff about war and life being miserable. A little over three years ago, I quit the law firm that I was working for, figuring that I would take the client I had in the interim to make money from and interview at other firms. I got a $70,000 offer from a firm that was over an hour drive away, and I turned it down because of the drive and the area where it was located (i.e., I didn't want to move there). I spent the next six months sending out more resumes than I can remember and going on more interviews than I can remember, all for naught. Didn't get a single offer from anybody other than the first one. So, I continued going it on my own and got lucky enough to pick up a personal injury case that I settled later for $300,000, of which my fee was close to $100,000. Picked up another personal injury case that I settled for $50,000, of which my fee was a little over $18,000. Right before I settled both of those cases, I did get a $50,000 offer from a guy close to where I live, and he was willing to give me 1/3 of what I brought in. Now, looking at what I settled just shortly thereafter and the fees I brought in, I would have been working for this guy for free the first year. Since then, which was January of 2003, I have been picking up clients over time and working my tale off ever since, and I am trying to make sure that I never have to work for another firm again. Sometimes, the money has been slow and others it has been good. You just need to figure out a solution for yourself and keep plodding ahead. Complaining about things won't help you and a war definitely wouldn't help you. Who would you be fighting, the US government? However, if you want somebody to talk to about anything, I am here for you and will try to give any advice I can. Edited to add: I didn't know about the girlfriend situation, so maybe moving isn't an option. However, why can't she sell her house and use the money to buy a house some where else? Is she just attached to the house you guys are in right now?

Jabba and Fabs,....ur the best Bros,...
Jabba,.. I appreciate the offer bro,.....but I think I am just a little more upset then I probly should be,...
After taking some time to think and breath,..I got a phone call. So I am trying for a bus driver position with a local school,..BIG School District.Upscale at that! As for my girlfriend being attached to the home we live in now,..yes she is.She had worked for a slate company,..and she stacked ,and punched slate for years,...until she hurt her back,...then one night shortly(about 4 months later), after she hurt her back she was out and some guy that she wouldnt go out with ran her over with his car, sending her over the hood ,onto the roof and off the back side of the car. She won a settlement,..and bought her house. We tried moving to Ohio and renting the house out,.but the people we rented to just tore this place up. It took us well over $6,000.00 to fix everything,..and we basically just got finished with the worst stuff. Now we have other things that need to give attention to,like the roof and so on,..regualr wear and tear stuff, that has now caught up with us. Mary ( my girl),...is good people, and dont ask for nothing,..we just deal with it on the fly and hope that we dont get caught with our pants down around our ankles.lol Now she is going through this credit card thing ,that we thought was the state trying some crap for us ordering cigs. That wasnt the case,....So there alot that has happened in just the past week, and it hit us like a ton of STEEL,..(not bricks)lol,... I was only considering moving to Ohio because I need to have money,...I live for money and since I have lived in this state I havent had it. Bros and sis`s I have never been without. I always had bows, guns, crossbows cars and camper, and 2 boats, and food in the house. NY SUX! that`s the plain and honest approach here,..and I have to deal with it.We cant sale the house,..she got it through a goverment deal (HUD) , I believe and she still has to do a certain timeline thing I guess. We have however been talking about renting it out again,..but I will have to find a way to do background checks and reference checks before I would even consider renting it out again. But I want to say,...THANK YOU!!!! for being good people and caring enough to help and offer even more then I would have ever expected. I consider you all my Bros/Sis`s and would be there for any of you if asked. As for war in this country ,...who would I go after,...(and I am in a good mood, not being crazy here)lolol,.. Your right Fabs,... the goverment,...the suits that sit and take our Freedom and our lively hoods from us a little more every day. And maybe some ex-bosses lol. Ok all,...Later All SAFE HUNTIN~
