Got a mouth caller I've been practicing with. Got a kit from Carton's Calls with a squealer tube call and an instructional tape. Called in a couple of curious coyotes but haven't had the opportunity for bears yet. Been kinda looking forward to using it this spring, though, as baiting isn't legal in BC.

Years ago some Montana Wardens turned me on to this method. I tried it in Wi. several times. Biggest problem here is we have a season in early Sep't. and the ferns are still up, visiblity is not very good in the woods. I would try it for about 30 min. at a site and then move. Never did call in a bear, but I think it is a valid method.

watch ur a$$

never tried it but, i would like to think that you'd better be ready to take whatever bear comes in if he's real hungry. the thing i think you need to remember is that the bear you call will be coming looking for a good meal that it thinks will have to be killed and may put up a fight. so if you call in an aggressive little bear you might have to take him, not like baits or stalks when you can back out at any time. bears are different critters and are very unpredictable.

just a though. something i always wondered.

Calling in a bear can be fun to watch. Just remember your not calling them in for dinner. When you call a bear in most times it's looking for a fight. If you use a cub call expect Moma to come in mad looking to fight off what ever is making that cub cry. The same the for boar. He is coming looking to kill off the cub. A boar will kill the cubs in the spring to bring the female into heat for breeding. I,ve had a female charge the tree I was in when using a cub call one spring. She would walk into the woods just out of sight until I tried to get down then came back and charge again this went on for 3 hours then she left. (Remember when bear hunting no mater how well you cover yourself they know your there )
