270 win For Moose

I am planning on taking my 270 win moose hunting this year, and I have a good load that I use for deer hunting and have so far 2 bang flops. Its quite accurate approx. 1" groups at 100yrds. I am using 140 grain Nosler Accubonds, will these bullets be good enough to drop a moose, I will only have a calf tag.

not sure on if that will be "enough"for moose but are you sure about them groups? i'm not doubting you (i know how accurate that .270 can be) but there are a few others here that may say otherwise

You'll knock a calf flat with that load. You'd impress his daddy too.

Hi All,

I would avoid the shoulder bones as they are heavy. Like all Hunting it's about bullet placement, and as for your groups .............................. well you shot them and you measured them, so you Know what it's doing Having a couple of rifles chambered for the 270 Winchester cartridge I am well aware that they can shoot very well indeed.

A good barrel, accurate chambering and fittng to a true action. Then bedded into a true stock, there is no reason why the rifle and cartridge combination cannot provide superb accuracy with a compatable load just like any other well fitted rifle. One of my .270 rifles with the right loads is capable of 1/2 MOA accuracy, the other I have not had long enough to really check out. One rememberable shoot was at 600 yards and I shot a 6 shot group of just under 5". It was in a little club competition, 6 shots highest 5 scoring shots to count. I was shooting 130 grn Noser Ballistic tips over Reloader 19.

270 Moose

While the 270 will surely do a moose in and as it is one of my favorite calibers...go ahead and use it for those ol mooseys....My preference for moose when I lived in the great state of Alaska was a 338 Winchester...or the 375 H&H....but it was always possible to run up on ol griz.. Correct shot placement is everything ya know
