Early season goose pictures

Here is a picture from early season goose here in Iowa. We had 6 geese down in about an hour and a half. My German shorthiar did just fine retrieving them to me. "who says you need a lab?" It was a lot of fun. I took some people who have never goose hunted before. We had the geese raining into our decoys and they loved it. We hunted about 35 west of Des Moines
thanks
Dave

We only had a 2-day season here in WA (Sep 10-11), but the wife and I limited early on both days (thus the "dark pics").
First pic is of Casey licking the pile from Saturday and the second pic is from Sunday.

Cool man. My shorthair won't retrieve geese yet.

I did kill 1 goose this year with my bow though.

That was pretty dang cool.

I will be going out again this weekend if time allows for it. The female in the above picture just passed her German fall breeding test with a prize 2. Parts of the test include a 500 meter rabbit drag, feather drag, upland work, duck work and some other items as well. We had a good time. There will be another test like this in two weeks here in Iowa. If anyone is interest in stoping out let me know
Thanks
Dave

i wish i could make it out.

the last time I went to a hunt test was 10 years ago if not a bit longer. it was with the guys from kings kennel in northern ill.
they had some nice dogs back then.
I just lost my gsp last year. xitty car accident. he was a great dog. I hunted upland game birds, rabbit, ran him with my walker for coon. and bayed hogs with him. he was a hell of a gritty dog.
to see him on a hog was amazing. I think with more time under his collar he would put some catahula leopard dogs to shame.
but most of all he was a terrific pheasant dog. I will admit he lacked water sense.
the only reason I need beagles is because that's what my hunting buddy wants. these dogs are for him. I want one so we can run a pair together.
if you came up with a nice shorthair I might consider it.
6 months before my shorthair got killed I bought a lab. she is a nice dog but a bit soft for my likening. I was actually considering getting another pointer. but figured I would give her time to grow up first.
what's your e-mail or phone ???
I would like to talk more about your pointers if you have the time.
take care and thanks for the post.
Jon

Jon,

I did some house keeping (i.e., merged the thread you created with this thread and deleted your last post on that other thread you created). Hope you don't mind me trying to put this post in the right place. If this isn't where you wanted it, let me know and I will fix it if at all possible.

Don't worry about causing me work. I like doing it. Anytime I can help somebody out on this board, I am glad to do it. Whether it is posting a pic for them or getting their post in the right place, I am always glad to do it.

I just hope I got it right for you.
