Crowbuster, go to eMachines website for info: http://www.emachines.com/support/pro...es&model=W3080
Near the bottom of that page you can chat with support. When you put a blank CD or DVD in the appropriate drive, you can't click on that drive letter in "my computer" to open the drive up in a window. I have a Sony that allowed you to open the drive in a new window and then you could drag and drop files into it. Then burn the disk from there. On my eMachine, you need to use a program called Nero Express to burn Cd's and DVD's. Have you tried that yet?

I have the Sony drive on my machine and really like the fact that I can drag and drop files to burn them to CD. It makes life a lot easier.

Yeah,
More than likely some 3rd party software was installed that "over-took" Windows-XP standard drag and drop via Roxio software. Some of those programs even require a "Format" function before you can even burn files to the CD. I have several applications that burn CD's and DVD's, but I still like the ol drag and drop features for the quickness the Roxio provides. Take a look at http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/ for XP related problems. Do a search on Roxio, maybe and see if it comes up with something to make sure Roxio is always your "default" software to burn CDs. Another possibility is that Roxio doesn't support your burner. I've never seen that before, but I'm sure it is a possibility. Darn computers.... Job security for me though! ![]()
