I recieved a bow from one of my friends it is a good bow its a PSE. The only bad thing is it only has a draw weight of 25-45 lbs is that a bad problem if i want to hunt deer. Does the draw weight matter with taking down an animal or does it only matter to your distance you can shoot? Thanks

They sort of go hand in hand. 40 lbs is plenty to kill a whitetail deer if you are shooting under 30 yards. Don't let that bother you though as most whitetail deer are shot between 18 and 22 yards. If you plan on shooting farther, you need to shoot more poundage (create more kinetic energy) with a heavier arrow to consistently pass thru game animals. Also, if you're shooting 40 to 45 lbs I would wait for broadside shots and stay away from bone structure all together. You will have no problems if you do that.

make sure you have the limb bolts tightened down to be sure your at peak poundage with that bow.
As far as it being enough, yes it is at 45. Use the bow this year and maybe next. If you find you like bowhunting, consider upgrading to a bit more poundage. That of course depends on your ability to draw more weight.

Another thing to check, if you haven't already, is that this new bow of yours is set to your own body (draw length, etc.) as bows need to be tailored to the shooter. Your buddy's specs may very greatly from yours. This can and will effect shooting performance as well as being a safety issue. Get that checked out my friend!
