the only thing i remember about pearl harbor was when the news came over the radio and my grandfather started cussing up a blue streak. it was the only time i ever heard him cuss. so i i mmediately grasped the seriousness of the situation. he also had some strong words for the nazis although not quite as flavorful. i was not quite 4 years old when this happened and i still can hear fdr's voice on "this day in infamy". grandpa said don't cry liebchen we can fight here. and fight we did . everything was done to aid our soldiers.

on the home front everything possible was done to aid the war effort. food was rationed, as was gas, we used everything until it had no life at all left, then we found another use for it somehow. we were the original recyclers.

eventually our soldiers who fought under the harshest of conditions won the big battle. but many gave their all and never got to return home. those brave men will always be in my heart and on my mind. pearl harbor reminds me of this each year.

it also was a guiding force 17 years later when i enlisted in air force. i thought what better way to thank my country and to thank all those who payed the ultimate sacrifice. my enlistment date was 8 december 1958.

even though i'm not a bible thumper i implore everyone to set aside a quiet moment to remember those folks who gave their all so the rest of the world and all of us could be free. and yes in the time i spent in the military a lot of it was spent asking god to keep me and my comrades safe.

as the old saying goes "anybody who doesn't believe in god never spent a night under siege". or something like that.

pearl harbor will never be forgotten even though the liberals are trying to rewrite history. my family will never forget as long as i'm alive.

god bless all those who gave their lives and their all.
