Boy gets First Elk!

Well it took a little while but he got one.
Take a look she had to be the biggest cow in the herd.





I was hoping he would shoot a calf.
To say he was happy is the understatement of the year. Just 3 days earlier we had hiked 5 miles up a canyon, in the sleet to get a 350 yard shot that he misjudged and shot low as they went over the ridge. He looked at me and said, "I missed? How could I miss a 250 yard shot?"
I said, "try 350 and that is how you missed. Enough said. Lets head back to the truck."

congrats to your son.i shared that same expierience 21 years ago with my father,and hope to do it again next year with my 11 year old son.

Sounds like a wonderful hunt, and he got some good field experience on estimating range too.
