Yeah, three pounds should be good enough. I have a Ruger 77 MKII in .300 Win Mag and I installed a Timney trigger that I have adjusted to a little over 2 lbs with no creep. Essentially, when you pulled on the trigger the gun goes off.

I have allowed a couple of friends to shoot it, and always warn them that it has a light trigger, but they always look surprised when the gun goes off. In fact, I had one guy caught so far off guard that he took two steps backward after the gun went off and he weighs around 200 lbs.
