Ah, the wonders of turkey hunting!

The simple answer is, there is no answer.

It could be many things, from the bird seeing something from the roost he didn't like. Over calling to him in the tree the previous morning. I've even seen a coyote howl shut them up instanly. He could now have a hen and doesn't have a need to gobble. He can strut his stuff right in front of her without making a peep. Like I said; many, many things could cause this.

Hey I've been on a lot of quiet birds. Finding the trick to kill those birds are the fun part. Albeit, a gobblin' feirce bird that comes running in on a rope is exciting.....it doesn't always work that way (even when it's the same bird as the day before)

One old guy told me when I asked him the same thing! coyotes!
He said stop and think, with them @*$# coyotes getting so thick, turkeys don't gobble like they use to. ever time they gobble, there's a coyote headed for him, He said take for instance, if you were standing on a street corner and every time you statred to sing, someone would drive by an throw a rock at you, how long would you sing ? He said same goes for gobblers and coyotes.
But I do believe the weather and barometric pressure has a lot to do with it, or extra sexy hens, and then for no reason at all !
