it all depends on you, neither woul dbe my first choice, unless restricted to 100 yards or less, then the .22 mag.

Sure if you do your part, they can do further, but they are losing power fast.

Thats just me, personally for a small calibur round, i'd take a .223, .243, .22 hornet, .218 bee, .219 jet, or 22-250 if you wanna stick to roughly .22 bore size.

A .17can take a Yote, but will you find it before it runs, hides, then dies? I know of people who have taken a yote with a .22mag at 50y.
Myself I would at least use a .223. After the deer season is over I plan on using a 6.5x55mm

If I had to choose 1 I would choose a 10-22, because you can get a lot of shots off before it gets away. The .17 is more accurate aand if you can get a head shot then thats that. but the 10-22 can cause more damage quicker. So you dont have to spend all your time tracking. But dont get me wrong a .17 is a better long range gun thats for sure.

In my experience, neither one ... unless you're a trapper that walks right up to the captured critter and dispatches it at extremely close range ... then, in such a case, either one.

I consider the .22 centerfires the minimum I will use on coyotes.

I have said this before here; coyotes are pound for pound one of the toughest animals I hunt. They need sufficient power to dispatch them humanely.

I use a .22-250 or something more powerful when we call them.
