Remington 700

Just bought a neat little rifle the other day. Don't know too much about it so thought I might ask some of you all. In point of fact I haven't even picked it up...or looked at it in a couple of years. An older friend(87) called and wanted me to buy his guns....all of them except maybe a Browning(gag) 20 ga O/U. The one I am inteested in learning about is a Remington 700 in 7mm-08. He got it from the custom shop and it has a full length stock(Mannlicher style). Gun is like new(17 rounds through it) and has a Leupold VXIII in Leo mounts. Just wondering if Remington sold that configuration as a catalogued item or not and approximate value. Don't have all my reference books here or unpacked yet...probably take me another month or 2 to get 'em all here. I appreciate any help

Can't tell you much about that specific gun........but your friend........he has good taste. Fine rifle and you could bet around my house that gun would have a bit more than 17 rounds thru it.

I have seen something like it in the custom shop before but thought that it was a model 7 not a model 700. I guess it could very well be a model 700 in 7-08 if it is a custom shop gun.

I liked the model 7 version in 7-08 with the full length stock, sweet looks, light weight, proven deer round, non flinch caliber.

Hi JM It could well be a M-7. I haven't seen the gun in a couple of years. Do know it came from the custom shop though...and the ole fellers memory may have slipped a little. I guess we'll see when I go back next month. Also getting a Rem 504 22,an 870 Wingmaster with 3 bbls, a Wilson 45, a winchester riot gun and a 12 ga Browning O/U(gag...gonna have to sell that one purty quick) and some other stuff that he has.

Tell me if it was a model 7 or 700.

Whats the big deal with the browning's. Depending on grade and age some have gone up in price nicely and some have stayed flat as a pancake in price but normally they don't loose value.

Now I have a winchester o/u 20 guage quail gun thats a fine follow the dog gun. I still grab the 12 guage 870 most of the time.

JM I used to have a gunshop for a lot of years and after approx 10 yrs I quit selling them. Their customer service left a lot to be disired...in fact it was nonexistent. I personally had a 4 bbl skeet set and there weren't 2 bbls out of the 8 that shot to the same point of impact. Browning just told me ..oh ,well! They said they wouldn't fix it. I also had a friend with a Beretta that was somewht the same and they wouldn't fix it either...But they did give some lip service to the problem and a new set of bbls that were the worst. Browning just said you bought it so its your problem. Dumped that one on the market pretty quickly and had a customer who bought a Browning from another dealer that had an egg shaped chamber. So bad that you couldn't run the empty into a Mec 600 Jr resizer die. Wouldn't fix that either..so I refused to sell the darn things new and when I got one on trade I always sold it for what I paid for it. Some people got some good deals from me I guess but I always told them I was not responsible for any problems they had with the gun..in writing.
Back to the reason for this post...I'll be picking the guns up in a couple of weeks so I'll be able to tell y'all what model it is.

Hey Skeet,
Just thought I would allow as to how if you must take the Browning 20, let me know. I would hate to take advantage, if it must go at an attractive price, I will give it a good home and it would not be crying in the night from loneliness, it would have 6 companions to talk trails with. But, it might get a little out of joint, cause I do spred my time out between the others.

The model 7 MS custom would run about $1200 or so brand new. The model 700 wasn't made as a mannlicher as far as I know. The scope and rings are about $500 brand new, so a $1600 or 1700 setup probably; offer what you think is fair for that being used
