Pig Hunting

Going on a pig hunt in a couple of weeks. Anyone share any advice on hunting them with a bow?

Never hunted them before, but others have told me that quartering away shots are better than broadside near the shoulder.
Not that broadside shots aren't good, but there is something about a breast plate that makes penetration a bit more difficult.
You may want to go to hunt chat's "bears and boars" board to ask the question - you'll be certain to find pig hunters there.
Have fun. I'd like to go on a pig hunt someday too.

I have been on several Hog hunts, all over the world. I gun Hunt so, I don't have the bow hunting skills, but some hunting buddies put there arrows just behind the shoulder and dropped the hogs. When you try to go through the shoulder plate it will be very hard to kill. A secret that I use while gun hunting from a tree stand is to use Cod Liver Oil proded on the ground about 50 yards out. One it brings them in also it stops them for a while so you get a better shot. Where are yiou hunting and will dogs be used.

We'll be hunting Central Idaho and will not have dogs. Leaving tomorrow and am very excited to try this hunt. I'll post what I learned next week!!

Im guessing you didnt get a pig since you didnt post back but I wanted to add my 2 cents here.

A hogs vitals are much further forward and lower than a deers vitals. Hitting just behind the shoulder is putting your arrow at the back end of the vitals. A preferred shot is tight to the shoulder/ leg 2/3 down from the backline with an intended exit just in front of the opposing leg. That will buy you bottom of the lungs and heart everytime and avoid all shield and shoulder blade/bone issues.
