32mm objectives

Quite a while ago I had a 32mm scope, very low mounted on my .243, it was a nice little 2-7x. I was thinking once I started hunting again here, I would get a used .223 or .243, because on the land where I will hunt as a guest, crows are a priority target (lots of corn growing their).

But I was looking through my Bass Pro and Cabela's (among others) and noticed, with little exception, most of the ocular bells on the 32mm scopes are huge! Where is the logic of making a small objective, when you will have to mount the scope higher any way?

Am I missing some deep seeded logic here?

Jon
