Congrats Wrenchman!
I wanted to get my son out for the youth season. He's 12, and so he could only hunt on private property yet. I'll be damned if I could find someone to let us hunt their land. Really disappointed me, not to mention him. |

Makes me VERY happy to live in Maine where you can find good hunting within a mile of your house. I knew there was a reason I didn't move out of the state when I graduated college, even though the first few years were a struggle. Besides the fact that all the people I care about are here.

There is still alot of good hunting around here also. Just harder to get permission to hunt private land.
This summer, our legal hunting age for firearm deer was lowered from 14 to 12. But the only way the legislature could get our great governor ![]() I could have asked my brother in law to hunt his 5 acre woods, and he wouldn't have turned me down. But its the only spot him and his son will be hunting starting next weekend, and I didn't want to screw it up for him. This last weekend was our youth hunt. Children from 12 to 16 were allowed to hunt deer with firearms. The regular season for firearms doesn't start until Nov 15. I really believe that this hunt should have been open to all lands ... was supposed to be to get more kids hunting right? Sorry, I'll get off my soapbox now. Just really disappointed for my son. He was really looking forward to getting to possibly go this year. |

Posting property around here is getting worse too...What I have found out from a lot of posted farms is they get an insurance cut if they post their land....humm...now that makes one think...another anti plot?....They still most of them anyhow let ya on it to hunt if ask...yep, we also have the ones that are high on 'its all mine, keep out'.....one guy even named his driveway...'my lane'....ok...Airline pilots with a good amount of cash are buying up the farms and even go as far as try to get the other farms to stop spreading fertalizer....so the real farmers tell me....don't give up on the son...things will work out...maybe pass the word more in the local coffee shops etc about places to take son...a safe farm...it does work ...know that...by all means, keep cool about it...I ran into antis this year already in the local parks they opened up 2 yrs ago to thin the deer...so I try to avoid them as much as can...My last words to one old buzzard was, ' thank you, have a nice day'...even after what he said to me....and assure and make good hunting impressions on some others I have ran into there that didn't know we could archery hunt the parks...(I keep in the woods till end of day and easier to walk out on the trails).and with reasonable concern of walking their dogs...But there are a ton of speed beef in those woods..I see over 10/11 deer every time there....just pass on the doe for now cause I know about the huge buck living in those woods..whew!
