Dan,

My great grandparents lived in Blackhawk. They owned a little house on the side of a mountain right in town and scratched out a living there I don't know how. I hear there house is a casino now. I'd hate to go back and see it.

Wyoming is filling up with billionaires fast, they're chasing out the millionaires. I'd take a serious look at the Bighorns, not nearly as developed as the Teton or Cody areas or even the blackhills. The blackhills of SD are a changing fast, way too fast. Western Montana is about lost and I'll bet Colorado is similar.

Myself, I'm a ways off from retirement but I think I will look long and hard at the Missouri River areas in South Dakota, maybe Mobridge, and settle in. Great hunting & fishing without the big money crowds (yet). Good down to earth people too, you just can't beat the people in the Dakotas.

I used to think I'd have a lake place in northern MN, but I'm already priced out of thinking about that.

Good luck to you.
