Made a nice find

Was out at the shooting range the other day, first time in awhile actually. There was a bunch of gangstas shooting several pistols there with a ton of emptys laying about. I walked over and asked if they reloaded and they said no. My next question was if they were shooting any glocks and they said no. (I won't reload cases that came out of a glock.) I ended up with 9mm, .40, 10mm, .38's, .357's, .45's and .44 specials. How many you ask? More than would fit in 2 large coffee cans. Ought to keep me busy for awhile.

Classicvette63,

Good show on getting once-fired brass at the local club. I get more cases than I can use the same way at my nearby gun club.

Please tell me why you will not pick up brass that came out of a Glock? I have several Glocks and reloading dies for my other handguns in calibers that could accomodate my Glock guns.

If there is a safety issue, please advise me since I have not yet reloaded for my 9mm or .45 ACP Glocks. I have not read any cautionary warnings about Glocks and reloading, so my learning curve is verticle. What is the "rest of the story?"

Happy New Year.

Adam

Adam, Glocks have an unsupported chamber, at least they did. This causes the casing to bulge a bit at the rear, weakening the case. Using reloads in a glock is a big no-no to some. Some instances of kabooms. I can't recall all the details though. I'm sure some of the others can chime in about it.

I use to reload for a buddy that had a couple of glocks, but I stopped. It just seems that the glock isn't reloader friendly, although there are plenty of folks who do use and reload for them.

Classicvette63,

Thanks for the reply.

At the agency, before I retired in 1996, we ran 100 agents over the qualification course twice a year and ended up with five gallon buckets of 9mm brass fired in our Glocks. A reloading company took the once-fired brass off our hands and reloaded it all.

I will not reload for my Glocks, just the same.

Adam

I think this may be much ado about nothing. IIRC, the good old 1911s in .45 ACP also have an unsupported chamber next to the feed ramp. I don't see anyone having problems loading for those firearms. My ex-son-in-law is an LEO and his duty gun is a Glock in .45 ACP. he usually gives me his fired brass and I've been reloading them and shooting them in my 1911s and SIG P220 with no problems at all. As far as shooting handloads in a Glock, I believe the problem stems from shooting lead bullets in that wierd rifling they use. Why that happens is beyond me, but jacketed handloads should work just fine in Glocks.

Adam you can reload for your glock it comes down to how good is your quality control? I know several people that reload for glocks in .40 caliber, 357 sig, and 45acp. Don't know anyone that reloads for 9mm because it is cheap to buy, but that may be changing?
The glocks can not use lead bullets, thats about it. Some opt to buy aftermarket barrels for a more "supported" chamber and the ability to use lead bullets.
I have shot reloads through glocks and have never had a problem with them. I will even go as far as saying that a guy I know uses my 40 brass out of my glock 22 and crushes them with a 357 sig die to make brass for his glock 357 sig. I have heard tons of people saying don't do this yet no problem after over 2,000 plus rounds. Check out glocktalk.com if you want more info on reloading for glocks. Esox357.

Glock warns you not to use reloads because of the unsupported chamber. I didn't listen and ruptured a case wall in a model 27. I use an after market barrel for reloads that supports the case completely now. Neither I nor the gun were damaged seriously, but the rounds in the magazine didn't go off. I hate to think what could of happened. Please be careful.
