What did you get for Christmas?
I was in a gun shop on Saturday with my significant other. She enjoys looking at the various surplus arms. I found a few very nice Kar98ks that were captured by the Russians in WWII. They has the distinctive Soviet "x" on the receiver ring and they had dark bores (seems that Ivan was not inclined to clean captured arms). One rifle was a dou 42 and had a perfect bore so I told the shop owner to put it on layaway for me. At that point my significant other overruled me and said I was going to be taking the rifle home. I just cleaned the bore and it is mint. It was a very nice Christmas. All the best...

My wife gave me a choice between a new pair of cycling shoes that cost $225 and a new Bluebill decoy from Jules Bouillet. I chose the shoes. Well, we went down to Florida to spend the week before Christmas with her family and when we opened presents I was pleasantly surprised when I opened a present from her sister and brother and it was the bluebill drake decoy. That decoy is pretty nice. Now, I am trying to figure out how I can get the matching bluebill hen decoy.

Gil,
I had a very nice Christmas as well. What did that "dou 42" cost? My significant other (SO) read our weekly "Penny Saver" paper and noted an ad for "an old army rifle" nearby. She went thereto promptly and returned with the mystery gift? It was a Swedish M1938 6.5x55mm rifle made in 1942 with mint bore and very good exterior and matching numbers for "under $100."(real cost is classified) I instructed my SO to carefully read ALL future "Penny Saver" papers and scurry forth to buy all other "Old Army Rifles" (under $100, per each). What a country? Adam

Sheesh, I don't think my wife would ever buy me a gun as a present. Probably a good thing because she doesn't know anything about them. I would have to tell her exactly what I want, but I guess I did that with the shoes and the decoy. I just need to give her subtle hints about an AR-10.

fabsroman,
AR-10, you say? Well you got it right! Give me a .308 any day. In July 1965, I was given a .223 and could not warm up to that "chuck round" despite the "assurances" of the administration. Happy New Year. Adam

That dou 42 did not cost me a thing. My Honey paid $238.00 out the door. The rifle is absolutely mint. Looks like Ivan captured this one before it was ever fired.
I have seen these Russian-capture Kar98ks listed for $350.00. All the best... Gil |

Christmas
I didn't get any new arms for Christmas, but the holiday has provided time to finish the re-furb of my 1886 Lebel, and develope loads for it.
We are having fun in this area with "Wild Bunch" matches. That is any arm in servioce 1916 or before. I shot a 1905 Ross and a MK-VI Webley at the klast match. Also had time to get some of the Safe Queens out that had not been shot in ages. Ran a few rounds through the G-41, G-43, and Johnson 41. I'm seeing an encreasing number of military arms coming into the shop. People seem to be shooting them more lately. Cheers Old Scout |

Welcome
Thanks Gil, and if you run out of things to do, drop by my site, www.brimstonepistoleros.com . Some kackers blew the site to bits a while back, and we are just getting it going again. Mostly Black Powder.

I got the family a bunch of stuff but I only got a book or two and a movie on DVD (that is not a complaint BTY - I am mucho blessed!).
So after Christmas I go the gun show - just to look, my New Years resolution is to not buy any new guns; out of room! So, naturally at the gun show I find a Custom Win Featherweight in .35 Whelen (spare barrel in .280 Rem) and a S&W model of 1989 in .45 Colt...they followed me home. Last week I found the 1911, made in 1917 I mentioned elsewhere here on the forum. I have a new New-Years resololution: I will never ever make another New Years resolution! Medium sized gun show tomorrow...guess where I will be....Good Lord willing and the creeks dont rise. Riposte
