Leo Vs Nikon

Tired of using channel lock pliers to turn the power ring on my Leos. Will be buying a Nikon Monarch next. It turns with one hand, imagine that. It's every bit as clear and bright as well.

I have a few Nikons also.I do have the Buckmaster series though. Less than half the cost of a comparable Leupold and 98% as clear ...maybe even as clear. Most all of my leupolds I have gotten used...well not all but quite a few.

Thats impossible. A Leupie is twice the price so, it must be twice as good, with twice the quality, and the optical quality and paramaters twice as good, right?

If it turns that hard, have you contacted Leupold about it?

A friend recently purchased a Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14 (at my urging because Nikon is supposed to have good stuff these days). While sighting it in, I noticed that the turrets didn't appear to track correctly when making adjustments. Have also noticed this on a B&L Elite 4000 (x2).
The bitter cold may not have helped either and when it warms up we will re-test it. If it doesn't work, its going back to Cabela's. He got it because of the low price but will upgrade to a Leupold if it doesn't work out.
On his scope I also have a problem with the loose power ring. Its adjustment seems sloppy to me. There is a little bit of play in either direction before it engages to change the power setting. And other Buckmaster scopes in the display case at Cabela's did the same thing.
Like camera lenses, you get what you pay for. I'll stick with Leupold, US Optics, Nightforce etc.

First I was a Brown Shirt, now I'm an elitist?

I know your yanking my chain... but seriously, every time I try a lower dollar scope for whatever reason I end up disappointed.
I would try the 2.5-10 Bushnell Elite 4200 firefly for my 222 though.
Repeatability is not as critical cause I won't shoot that caliber beyond its pointblank range.

I note that you're using the lower line Nikon- the Buckmaster.
If you're comparing that Buckmaster to a Vari X 111, it's a bit of an apples to oranges comparison.
I have had nothing but good experiences with Nikon scopes, but I've used the upper line ones.

I have only used the Monarch's as well. A buddy got a Buckmaster and while they are a good scope, after I let him compare it to my Monarch his next scope was a Monarch. I sell cameras for a living and as
Skinny said you get what you pay for when dealing with glass. Same goes for Binos. Want a fun test? Go into a store that hopefully has a lot of binos. Find the darkest corner in the store and look through a pair of Nikon Sporters. Then do the same with the Monarch's then the Premier series. You will see a BIG difference. Big difference in price too, but that is to be expected.

I have never owned a Nicon but have had about every other brand on the market and now use all Leupolds. I`m useing a fixed 24X on my .22-6mm right not and am very impressed with it`s preformance. With 80 gr. Serria bullert at 2,900 fps. I set the moa acording to the Serris blistic chart for that bullet and velosity and guessed at the windage. I shot a group 3 1/4 in. at 500 yrds. in a heavy wind that was 1 1/2 in low on point of aim and 5 in. left, didn`t guess the wind to good, but every shot would still have taken a coyote. The only groundhog I`ve shot this year was alittle over 430 yrds. It took me 2 shots as I did not get the wind right on the first shot, alowded 15 in. and needed just over 30 in, but again tracking was right on to what the Serria chart said it should be. Do Nicon`s track that well?

I have accumulated Leo., Burris, Nikon, and Redfields. To be honest have liked them all and still have them. The last scopes I purchased were Bushnell 3200 & 4200, very good scopes am well satisfied. Oh yes just got a Sightron RF scope and it is as good as my Leo. RFs.
