Talking Weaver rings

LOOKS not important! No I'm not looking for a date

But, can anyone truly tell me about a better bargan than Weaver top Mount rings. With the exception one set of Burris Zee rings, ALL my other scopes wear plain jane Weavers. I think they work just as well.....................what do y'all think ?

There are some advantages to some of the other rings. Red Field or Leupold let you adjust windage with the ring instead of the scope which is great if you mount is not straight on the rifle. Burrius Z ring will also do the same thing, but for most mountings there is no difference in the way they preform. I also have more Weaver mounts than any other kind, with Leupold in second place.

Hey Catfish,

I like the Redfield/Leupold STD's but I change scopes like teenage girls change shoes. I should have mentioned I was thinking on removable type rings.

And my 2nd Leupold, an older Vari-X II (new still in box) is going to Beaverton to get a #1 POST reticle installed, then mounted with Weavers, although I am real sure this will stay on the rifle I select.

Jon,
I don`t like to change scpoe so I tend to have one for each rifle and acouple of extras incase I get a new rifle. I always aim to have eather a 24X or a 36X Leupold setting on the shelf for use working up loads for any new rifle I get, but once I work up a load I usually put on a scope that stays for years. I`ve also got a pile of base mounts for different actions and rearly have to buy a new base mount. Ring though are another story, seem like I`ll lay in a supply and afew days later I`m out and buying more.

Weaver mounts are, IMO, not very pretty, rather light, easily available, very rugged, and cheap.
And switching scopes with Weaver mounts is very easy- leave the rings on each scope-rings are cheap enough.
With Weaver bases on all your rifles, you can switch scopes quite easily and quickly.
I would not guarantee that the zero would hold, but it will often be surprisingly close.

Weaver Rings

Just a heads up..The newer Weaver Quad Lock rings are a lot better looking and should hold scopes better. Check 'em out.

When Blount bought Redfield/Simmons/Weaver, Simmons had the same style rings, but only for a while. In fact look in really old gun rags you might see them in an advert.

Then I wondered what happened to them..and whala....over to Weaver!

But wouldn't they be very simular in performance with the regular Weaver Sure-Grip rings?

It's all good...................................
