Need fishing license info!!!!
At what age is a fishing license required in your state? Please note your state in your reply so it will help me keep track of what states I have replys for.
Here is the reason that I am asking this question. Michigan is so far in the hole that they are reaching for any way to get money to keep the DNR afloat. At present the legislature is working on a package of bills to raise license fees. It is needed and been a long time coming. What they originally wanted in one step was pretty drastic.. At present a fishing license is not required until 17 years of age, which looks like will change to 16. There is a $2 "voluntary" license that can be purchased so that a kid can have a license just like mom or dad. This license is not required for them to keep there own stringer of fish. The bill in the legislature requires this "" Voluntary"" license of a kid to keep the fish on there OWN stringer. They can add there fish to another persons limit that they are fishing with. The talk is that the DNR wants this to happen because that for every $2.00 license that the make the kids buy will get a return of around $8.00 from the Dingle-Johnson Act moneys. To me it is not about the 2 bucks. It is about the fact that Michigan is loosing hunters and fishers every year they can not give the future fishers of the state abreak. They are just looking at the bottom LINE$$$$$. Thanks for listening to my rant and your help. Tom Last edited by multibeard; 04-28-2007 at 08:11 AM. |

Minnesota is 16. It used to be those 65 & over didn't need a license at all, now they do but they can apply for a 50% refund.
I buy a combination "Sportsman" license which is good for husband & wife fishing, plus small game hunting for me. I think it's about $35. I don't mind that so much, but then there's all the specific species stamps, access permits, boat licenses, shelter licenses, darkhouse spearing license.......

For Texas
You do not need a license/package if you: are under 17 years of age. were born before Sept. 1, 1930. are a mentally disabled person who is engaging in recreational fishing as part of medically approved therapy, and who is fishing under the immediate supervision of personnel approved or employed by a hospital, residence, or school for mentally disabled persons. The mentally disabled person must carry an authorization identifying the entity supplying the service. This authorization may be in the form of an I.D. card that contains the name of the sponsoring entity. are a mentally retarded person and you are recreational fishing under the direct supervision of a licensed angler who is a family member or a licensed angler that has permission from the family to take the mentally retarded person fishing. While fishing, the mentally retarded person needs a note from a doctor stating the person has been diagnosed as mentally retarded. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat/ GoodOlBoy

California
A fishing license is required for 16 and older. None required below that age limit. This year our fishing license fee was $37.30. It goes up pretty much each year. Now for MY question.... Dingle-Johnson Act ![]() ![]()

Fishing lic. required for anyone age 16 and over. Think they're half price til age 18. Hunting lic. required at age 12, unlawful to hunt befor age 12, again believe it's half price til 18. This is for the state of Wisconsin.

YUP TreeDoc ----That is what is is called. It was passed before California went to the dark side of life.
It is simular to the Pittman Robertson (sp) fund. Excise tax on fishing tackle that is returned to the states to fund fishing projects. Lilred Be glad you moved back home. The state of Michigan is on a long down hill slide. Cutting back on the State Police and letting the cons out of the prisons. |

At 15-17 you have to have a Jr. License. Cost $11.50. See no point in it. Just will cause the 15-17 group to either fish without one or forget it in which case they may be gone forever as sportsmen.
