Question Dom, BBF, Leupold question.....

DOM,

I am toying with the idea of a combo gun, maybe a BBF, was thinking 12ga/.30-06 But I really don't wan't to invest in an EWA mouinting system, I am not much for removing and replacing the scope................but any way, do you think a Vari-X II would stand up to the recoil of a 12ga????

A vari x II will stand up to 12 ga pounding. I used one on a 12 ga slug gun for quite a few years. Still have the scope in fact ...VX II 1X4 Probably shot a couple hundred slugs with that scope. Slugs do kick quite a bit...and I'm not talking those wimpy Rottweils either.

SKEET

The 12 ga I am pondering has a half choke, I wouldn't use very large shot, maybe 2.5mm (7 1/2), the scope is a Leupold Vari X-II 3-9x 50mm, I just had a German #1 post installed, the scope is at my APO now, I got the slip Friday.

I called Leupold before I shipped it off, they said the scope was made in 1996. It had never been out of the box. My nephew traded me a Burris and a Redfield for it. I'm really-really going to miss the old Fullfield, but only Leupold puts the #1 post in without too much hassle.

Bock Buchse Flint (BBF) = Shotgun over Rifle Combination

That Leo will work just fine Jon, sounds like you have a solid plan. You're right, you don't need EAW mounts (tho they are great!), granted if all of us had a wad of cash burning holes in our pockets we'd have the greatest latest stuff. Have you already got the BBF or still looking? If you're still looking let me know, I occassionally run across some pretty good deals in my neck of the woods. The used ones almost always already have scopes on them, but you can sometimes work deals or have them keep the scope. In some cases, the scopes are 40+ years old and not worth much anyway. For the high seat hunting we do with multiple seasons and bag limits, nothing beats a combi, my Bock Drilling is my 'go to' weapon for the hochsitz, Waidmannsheil, Dom.

Kettner, Model S2000

Jon, check it out, caliber offered is 12/76 ga over 6.5x57R or 9.3x74R (R = Rimmed cartridges for break opens). Good price. I note it's made in Italy, probably where the major guns are manufactured, kinda like Suhl. Front trigger is also a Set trigger too! Due to model changeout and only a few left, they've marked it down from Euro 1120 to Euro 699. Take the 19% tax off and it's a very attractive deal. I noted it in the latest flyer I got, more info at link below, Waidmannsheil, Dom.

wrenchman

I decided to get a O/U shotgun, and use a simple rifle for the high seats, BECAUSE:

for the wide variety of game you can get on a drive hunt, like where I frequent, it starts along a river bank so we have duck and fox, then moves across strawberry patches, rabbits, then through open fields, phesants, more fox, hares and the occasional phesant.

So since the 1/1 1/2 choke are almost standard on European O/U, and I am financally challanged, I will just stay with simplicity.
