The W word..........no such critter!!!!Thought you were referring to the DemOWolf Convention!
Funny, a lowly Game Warden sees em but it cannot be true till
a Zoo troop says so.
Dan

Guess my point is people see and film em, people see tracks, a carcass is physically recovered....USFWS says 'no'....takes a Zoo employee and the media to authenticate this!

How true Dan. It's the same way here in the mountains...despite hundreds of reports of cougar (er whatever proper name ya wanna give it) aint nobody allowed to shoot em. Meanwhile they're killin off livestock etc etc. Derndest thing, they are a "protected species" here...lol.
I'm all fer restorin wildlife and all that happy crap, but I just don't see where the wolf can balance anythin. imho, if you compare the population now vs. say, 1860 fer example...there are ALOT more of us. While we dont hunt year round like they used to, there is the balance.
Wolves have been spreadin like wildfire and they won't stop expandin their range until a huntin season is issued somewhere.
(Accordin to what I seen on tv anyway)
Good luck to you folks out in the west.

"to help reduce the elk herd that is overgrazing the park"

Heven forbid we should hunt the population down with paid permits and license fees, that pay to support the park....

If wolves don't exist in Colorado, are they a "protected species" that cannot be hunted ?

A few years back Minnesota wasn't supposed to have any mountain lions and after they kept showing up the state realized that they weren't on the "protected species" list before somebody shot one, which prior to that would have been perfectly legal.

I imagine the trouble with wolves is the Feds.

For the life of me I can't see how some people worship these animals almost like they're a god among animals. They're a very efficient predator and I respect them. I don't like too many of them around though.

The recent footprints have as yet been "officially" been deemed Wolf. Could be just someones pet gone bad, hybrid. We'll see.
RMNP is still trying to come to grips with it's over population of Elk herd that's eating itself out of house and home. It's crazy how the tree huggers get so excited about a hunter humanely harvesting an elk, yet shout with glee with the sighting of predators like a wolf that tear it's prey apart. I suppose they should make rules of engagement for the wolves to follow so they select only the weak, sick or ugly elk and not the majestic 7x7's. Of course, I guess you could just shoot the sighted animal to positively determine if it is a wolf or not. Anyone seen Bigfoot? Time may or may not tell.

Hey Don't shoot Bigfoot!!

That ain't legal in this country! If ya do happen to see a Hybrid...well ya know it ain't a protected species.. and since the state says there ain't any wolves then they just have to be hybrids. BUT just in case....use the 3 S rule...Shoot shovel and shut up!! Anyway.. I used to guide with a guy that was called Bigfoot. Even looked a little like the real one on them Commercials. Might be him too.

Unlike the bad hunters, when the Elk population reaches the magic number, say 1,000 the wolves will stop killing them and the wolf population will stop growing and all will be well with nature. I am also sure the wolves will be glad to contribute to the preservation funding programs, just like the hunters do now with the purchase of guns and ammo. What a crock of crap. A shovel is a wonderful thing in action.

Heaven forbid we should do something more useful with elk than turn them into wolf poop.

There is a heck of a lot of pressure on NPS to cull this heard by permit hunting. NPS says they will do this but it hasn't happened yet!
The W deal is appalling to the number of creditable people that
have seen/photographed and KNOW a W track when they see one...not to mention the howl of one! If Big Brother says no....it cannot be.One that was run over on I70 about 15 miles west of me...they finally had to admit...was wearing a radio collar that traced back to Yellowstone....didn't publicize that un much!
As to a hybrid.......we had one in the 80's..15/16th Makenzie.....kids usta ride Yukon around the house. I finally gave him to a breeder!LOL
Lotta fun with him...legal to have em then!
Dan
