New toy

I picked up a Mossy 835 Ulti-Mag today This gun is sweet...anyway, I'm looking for a set of chokes and was wondering which chokes to get. Will the same chokes for the Accu-Mag fit in the Ulti-Mag? Will the Accu-choke chokes fit in both? Forgive the stupid questions but this is my first real shotgun purchase and I don't want to waste my money. Also, who makes good chokes? Thanks for the tolerance and the info.

Question

An additional question: which chokes are best for which application? Ducks from 30 50 yds, upland game, turkey? I'd like to get a few of them I could just keep together in a pouch but I'd like to make sure I get the right ones. Thanks again.

Tater, congrats on your new Mossy Other than the factory choke sets I've got w/Browning, Beretta, Remington, etc., I've bought and used only Briley and Carlson. Briley is nice, the Carlson's I got for steel shot on steel only clay ranges. Both do what I bought them to do rather well.

As far as which are best for different applications, tighter chokes for Turkey (Full, Ex Full) & waterfowl (Full, Imp Mod), open them up for upland game (Mod, Cyl). A lot of it depends on the area and range of the shots. Unfortunately, you'd have more choice if you shot a double barrel = two different choke choices at an instant.

If you do a little research you can read a long time, I suggest you go to a shotgun only forum and do a search, there's guys out there that live and breath only shotguns out there, hope this helps, Waidmannsheil, Dom.

The Ulti mag uses chokes that are a different diameter than the regular mossy chokes. The 835 is overbored so it uses different chokes. If you want to use aftermarket chokes always..always ..go with Briley. They probably make the best chokes for about every application you can find. Unless you are going to do an awful lot of steel shot shooting go for the regular Briley chokes. For steel..get the factory chokes. They are much cheaper and will probably do most everything you are ever going to need. Now the next thing you do...go shoot. Don't listen to Dom..you don't need 2 bbls. Most shooting can be done with an improved cylinder choke. Get a light mod too. Those 2 will take care of 90% of all the shooting you will ever do. You know how those elitist snobs in Germany are They'll have ya shooting a Drilling or Vierling if they can convince you to. Which reminds me...i almost bought a Drilling the other day. nice gun but pretty old

Ja Skeet, those four barrel jobs are nice -- and I got my eye on a sixer now

And there you go, proving my point that two barrels are better than one!! Stuff a Lt Mod in top and IC in the bottom, most shots are bottom barrel first anyway, hit the selector if inbound.

Anyway Tater, if you do get Briley they won't let you down -- just get out there and shoot, Spring is coming.

Skeet, you shoulda bought that Drilling, you know they're only getting more and more expensive, like Gasolino!! Guess I'm going to have to do smore more rubbing off on ya.
