new toy!!
well picked up a new toy for personel protection for the wife &i as we travel the fine rds in indy,in.a 1911-a1 springfeild parkerize
all the bells and whistles they say ! so let me know if you have one what ammo it likes to eat,got some eldarodo starfire in it right now but hate to shoot them at paper!

A Springfeild and parkerize Thats the way to go ?
I think a Springfield eats anything except Blazers with the alumunum case.

I have heard that you should not consider a auto reliable with any ammo unless it has digested at least 250 rounds of what ever you plan on carrying in it. I think that is a little excessive but I will not carry an auto I have not shot at least 200-500 rounds of Ball through then at least 3 boxes of whatever I plan on carrying in it.

If you got more than one mag: number them and switch them out every once in a while so the springs get a rest. Helps out quick if its a mag issue or a feed ramp ect.
Federal hydroshoks work well in my kimber. They don't load in my friends kimber same model and make different year go figure. I keep telling him to look a getting the feed ramp polished. the hydro-shoks are the 230's so they have a little kick in them. I still like my litte 357 for personal protection. Indy is becoming a bit wild lately even the pro basketball team shoots more rounds per year in street fights then they make in 3 pointers on the court.

Good choice
I have two 1911A1 Springfields, one is blued and the other is parkerized. Both shoot 230 grain ball and hard cast bullets very well. Never had a problem and have carried both. Take care...

Springy's are hard to beat. I have drooled over the milspec springfields quite a few times myself. As for magazines by all means buy good ones. The Best IMHO are the Wilson Combat #47D 8 rounders. They are expensive but worth every penny.

I stick with ball, or good HPs in the 230 gr weight to keep down any problems that might ever creep up about feeding (My Thompson likes the 230gr Golden Sabers, but mostly I shoot ball ammo which it loves) Shoot about 500 rounds through it to "break it in" good before you go depending on it too much. After that it should be smooth sailing for awhile. Be warned 1911s have a quirk where you usually have to replace a sping every 50000 to 75000 rounds. Also keep a good stiff grip on it or you will stovepipe the heck outa brass until you break it in. For gun oil on a 1911 3-in-1 household oil works well. My pakerizin on mine doesn't seem to like rem oil much. For some reason it just seems to dissapear a few hundred rounds in. The 3-in-1 works better. Congrats again. GoodOlBoy

Ammo for the Springie
I almost always carry ball in my 45's although I have a few of the good HP's from Remington and today at a garage sale I bought a couple boxes of Winchester Black Talons for 10 bucks a box. They are really getting pricey. Mentioned it to a friend and he offered me 30 bucks a box for 'em. They have tremendous hollow points in them. I also have a few boxes of BT in 44Mag 9MM and now the 45 auto. I also got some other goodies

Skeet if it were me old buddy I would sell him the talons and buy some more ball ammo.
By the way my grandfather used to say you "A 1911 ain't broke in until you can shake it and it rattles like a model A ford" Mine ain't broke in quite yet. I ain't fired more than about five or six thousand rounds through it. But darnit I am tryin! Least thats what I tell my wife every time I buy more ammo. GoodOlBoy

Shootin a 45
Gotta agree with ya GOB. My 1918 1911 is in pretty good condition and shoots ok but it do rattle quite a bit. Pure Military. I have aWilson Combat that don't rattle but that think is sure accurate. The S&W 28 I got today I brought home..loaded her up with some cast 158 grainers and 3 rd shot outta of the gun I bumped a rabbit off (in the garden ya see?) at a lazered distance of 85 yds. Must not have been his day.. Hey I also got a box of 500 200 gr SWC 45's this A M. Got lots of cases to fill too. BTW they cost me a whole 10 bucks. Have a bunch of the same loaded and they seem to shoot really good out of all my 45's

Yark I spotted an estate sale this morning on the way to work, and it was one of them days I had a meeting with big schmuckety schmucks so I couldn't stop. Spotted one guy walking out the door with a rifle in hand. I hate to think what I am missin at that sale.
