Mac,
You are a wordy fellow. I have only owned one semi-auto pistol in my life. It was a Colt and I was raised shooting a 1911 ACP. My first mis-fire was the second round in the clip from factory ammo. The next round failed to go to battery. After disassembling the gun and stoning all the burrs off every moving part, I got it as good as it ever shot. I never did get that gun to shoot reliably. The best was about 95%. 1 or 2 rounds for each magazine would fail to feed or the slide would not return to battery. Maybe it was just a bad gun. I carry a revolver because I have never had a failure to fire or a failure to feed. I got the same accuracy with both guns and I enjoyed shooting both. I did not like hunting for my brass after firing each target with the auto-loader in order to reload. I shoot a lot and I reload. I prefer revolvers to semi's hands down. I always will. ________ Shower Italian Last edited by PaulS; 04-03-2011 at 04:45 PM. |

PaulS,
You make a good point about auto reliability. At our agency semi-annual qulaifications we always had the Slap-Rap-Boom drill with dummy rounds to condition agents to clear malfunctions quickly. Autos require perfect magazines and perfect ammo and no limp wrist for 100% reliability. I have some that are reliable without a stutter and others that are not 100%. My revolver is to cover my hasty retreat in a shoot out-this is not the OK Corral where we stand and deliver until the smoke clears. Adam

For CCW, sin't a rvolver a very good choice
Some rules to LIVE BY.
(1)The best handgun is the one you have with you. Only a fool brings a knife to a gunfight. (2)Know how to use whatever you carry. Practice often. (3)Hurry slowly. The first bullet that hits usually wins the gunfight. (4)Decockers are a piece of garbage, only used after the action. (5)Never use a handgun if a shotgun is available. |
