For 41 Fans
I got a call yesterday from Starline. I'd been pestering them to offer 41 Special cases so those of us who love the round wouldn't have to trim down 41 Mag brass.
They called to tell me they are talking with a customer to produce a custom run of 41 Specials, and that he'd almost certainly be ordering them for retail sale. We talked a bit about specs and technical details, which made me feel pretty good. He cannot reveal customer names, but he did say that he'd call me again if and when the deal went through and where to watch for ads. He hinted that having the headstamp dies on hand might influence their own future plans. YEE Haw! If you love 41s but haven't tried making and shooting 41 Specials, you are in for a treat - and may be able to cut out the drudgery of trimming in the not-too-distant future!

Rocky, I have seen some articles about the 41 Special. Why worry about another case? I have been loading the .41 Mag with 220 grain cast bullets and 8 grains pf IMR SR7625 in front of a CCI 300 primer. It goes about 1050 and is a very pleasant round to shoot. I am sure it is possible to go with less powder and get down to about 950. It would be very pleasant at that velocity. Some of the old bulky shotgun powders are well suited to these "easy" loads.
Sorry I didn't see this thread sooner. |

Catfish, What the heck is a 41 Special chamber? If they have had a revolver made up with short chambers they call 41 Special, I don't have any sympathy for them and the least of their problem is the cost of trimming back 41 Mag brass. I am a cheap a-- and shoot "41 Specials" from the 41 Mag. I do have 38 Specials and .357 Mags and have been known to shoot 38 Specials in a 357, especially the S&W Model 60 I carry a lot. I never bothered to get 44 Special brass for the 44 Mags around here. If you shoot a 44, why put in a 4 cylinder engine?
All kidding aside; I thought most guys that wanted 41 Special loads wanted them to shoot in a 41 mag. Simple minded me. I have been thinking aout a S&W Model 24 because it would be an excuse to have 44 Special brass around here. |

41 Spec..
Evidently they did make some. Guy was selling some on a web site called Cast Boolits. And I saw some on a web site out of Salt Lake KSL..Rocky probably knows of that place.
