Here in the Buckeye we don`t have those big mean critters, but at time have bothersome dogs. I just lite them up with number 6 shot from a distance and sound like their yellin don`t shoot as they head for the next county. Would some bigger shot, like 4 bucks, do the same on those bigger critters??? Even if you kill one it will probly runn far enough away you won`t be bothered with it.

Buck Shot
That ol buck would surely kill a wolfie..but I wouldn't want to shoot a grizz with it. My neighbor uses my old 870 with the mag tube extension when he pack horses in the mountains. He loads 2 buck followed by 7 slugs. I guess the first two are for hurting him 'nuff to make him go away. He has a double bbl he used to carry but thought he needed a little more gun after having a few grizzly encounters. He even carries an old SAA in 45 Colt. Now that ol guy is a tough bird at 70. Still breaks horses. Still works for a state law commission. Wanted me to work for him...but I don't want to have to carry a gun. PITA. I carry one on the ranch here when out and about.. but don't want to have to carry all the time. Momma has her 9mm all the time
