I got a Hornet barrel for my Handi-Rifle thinking it might be neat to have a squirrel gun for which I could reload. Just for the heck of it I tried it today at the range with Sierra 45 gr. soft points over 13 gr. of Lil'gun and wow, I got 5 shot groups of around 3/4". It was windy too. This was as good as I have been getting with .223 barrel. I have heard some people say that Hornets were not accurate but I certainly can't complain with the results I've had. Even shooting store-bought cast .45 gr. gas checked bullets over 3 gr. of Unique (my squirrel load), it'll shoot 5-shot groups of under an 1" at 50-yds.

That is GREAT accuracy from a Hornet. They are kida hard to get to shoot well in most guns. You seem to have an exception. Great for you..And that accuracy with the cast bullets is exceptional

i was also suprised at the acuracy this hornet is showing.
today i pulled the trigger apart and slicked it up. feels very good now . Im going to see if i can fit 40gr nosler bts inside the ruger magazine if i can ill try and get an acurate load with that bullet ive already got them. if not i guess ill just load the 35gr vmax.
