Gun shop visit today

I went to a local gun shop today that has a lot of surplus arms. There were still plenty of guns on the racks. Two things were immediately evident: the overall condition of the firearms was NRA good at best and the prices were markedly higher. I suspect this is a sign of the times. All the best...

I am already plotting for yet another future 98er!

Not to worry

Jon,
There are still real bargains out there, you just have to shop around and be patient. All the best...

gun shops tend to ask full retail it does not mean that is what they will get
dont be scared to make a offer on yoused guns it would supprise you what they pay just keep in mind they have over head.

Spent a good part of Saturday at Cabelas in Maine. Aint no deal there but they do have everything. Handguns were selling like hot cakes even at their inflated prices.

I would urge you stay focused and talk about gun shop visits or any other appropriate topic. All the best...

In the past few months I have added a 1924 Mexican Mauser,a Venezuelan Mauser, and
a LH Charles Daly Mauser manufactured by Zastava. All actions only, in excellent condition, but, there are not many bargains that I have found. The days of $49.95 actions
are dead and gone.

Talking

Gil, Adam. According to Google Maps you two live 3 hours away........Keep it that way!

But on the subject, M98 actions are very hard to come by here in Sooner Land, and way too expensive. The last place I found near Oklahoma City that had anything M98 looked like it was ran over by Pattons tank's. The bolt it's self was quite a fright. The guy still wanted a fortune.

As far as Gil's advice to be patient, I have to be. I got no other choice.

BUT on a lighter note, the local yokel, freebie classified paper, listed:

Mouswer action, good condition, no firing pin $275.00

If that's not a sign of the times, I don't know what is.

I really don't need anything so I can afford to be patient. The price of anything is outragous. $1200 for a SW 1911. Right. I spend a lot of my crazy cash on reloading and archery anymore. I hate to say it and if my other half reads this I will deny it I have enough for now.

I plan on retiring for real in a year or so then I may try to build something but for now I will leave well enough alone.

Gil and Adam. I got a brother also and I'm glad he lives in Denver.

It depends

While the hang tag prices on surplus arms are a bit high, most gun shops will haggle as a previous posted has pointed out. My favorite gun shop owner says, "cash is king." He also says that he would rather make a nickel today than hope to make a dime next month.

A few of the gun shops tell me they are doing a brisk business online at gun auction sites. Those sites have prices that give me chest pains so I avoid them. All the best...
