BIG BEAR in the front yard last night!

I forgot to bring in the bird feeder last night from the front yard post right under the yard light.

At 0125 my dog moaned and that meant, "Let's take a potty break." I put on my robe, slid on my slippers and put the 1911A1 in the robe pocket. Just before I opened the mud room door I looked out and was stunned by the size of the bear sitting on his butt, eating birdseed and facing the house nine paces away!

I leashed up the dog, opened the door and yelled, "What is your problem?" The bear got up and casually strolled off past the barn. I like bears and have no desire to shoot one. He sure scared the stuff out of me, and that is ok by me.

My mother-in-law had a bear eat her birdseed one night a few weeks ago. No pictures of the bear, but there were paw prints. She lives in Franklin, PA, Venango County.

The bears are definitely on the move putting on the feed. I've seen 2 in the last week, one while driving home from work at about 5:30 in the evening and another at 1:00 in the afternoon in a secluded wheat field. It seems to me that they have a "loop" that they do time and time again. It may be a small one night loop or one that takes multiple days but it does seem that they are creatures of habit this time of year. If they've found food, they'll be back for sure.

I was in PA (near Lock Haven) last night - in NY tonight; then back through PA for the next week or so - for work.

I'll be happy to program the Garmin to DETOUR your area !!

Guys,

I am not overwhelmed by this nice bear. Last night I had the 12 gauge slung on my right shoulder with a slug, 00Buck and another slug just in case the bear wanted it to be a TOUGH encounter. I will let the bear gracefully stroll off, BUT if he/she wants to go to TOUGH, I will defer to the 12 gauge per Title 34 of the PA Game Code.
