I do also have a Rem 8 in 30 Rem but surely don't use the POS anymore..but I do have a 141 Pump in 35 Rem that is a fun gun to carry and shoot. The 8 just has too many things going on at one time..Not the most reliable. The 35 was last used to take a deer in Feb 2001 by my father in law shortly before his death. He hunted deer most every day..but we did have a few extras and he was 97 or older..LOL

When Winchester came out with the Mod 70 in 1938, I have shot a few of the originals ans it's forerunner the M54. Not quite 1940's, but I've aquired a sizeable stable of 1951/52 M 70's. I also got matching ones for my kids. They are , in my opinion, superior in quality to any thing made today! (that's gonna start an argument) Have had or still do have most of the cals.
Just my own opinion.Still haven't found a 7MM Mauser.....did see one....

model8,

My favorite pre-1940 rifles are my Krags, Enfields, Mausers, a .30/30 M94 Winchester rifle and a M70 .30-06 made in 1939.

I also have some Win 70's . Most are pre war and in kinda rare cals..well rarer than others. I do not use them to hunt with however. I am going to use the Win 54 Carbine(06) I bought earlier this year. Made in 1934 so it is pre 1940. Shot it yesterday in fact. Terrible trigger but shoots pretty good for an ol gun. Blasted thing IS older'n me!!
