.38-40 Winchester and Whitetail Deer

Dear Friends:

What is your opinion about using the .38-40 on whitetail
deer? What do you believe the ideal range to be for the
cartridge? I have heard some say that it is too light,
while others say that if used within a hundred yards that
it is definitely good whitetail medicine...not necessarily
ideal, but good.

I think under 100yrds you will be fine.. I am sure this cartridge took many deer & other game in the 1880's

"They" said that about the 44-40 and it darn near wiped out all the game in this country. Use it just keep the shots short.
