Surplus arms update
I was looking around a few gun shops for surplus military arms and the scene was pathetic. All I could find was an 1891/30 Mosin Nagant rifle with a dark bore and a "sporterized" No. 1 Mark III Enfield. Both were in poor condition and overpriced. Both are still sitting on the used gun rack.
What are you folks seeing out there regarding surplus military arms? All the best... Gil |

Gil,
The days of cheap and NRA Excellent military surplus arms has gone the way of 90-cent haircuts and 25.9 cent a gallon gasoline. The good olde days are Looong gone. The finest military surplus arms have disappeared into collections. Watch the "Penny Saver" papers for ads by disinterested heirs of former collectors. Been there and done that. Adam

As was stated, the good old days are gone.....and if you take a good look at the 'used' market for just about ANY firearm, the prices are going through the roof......Colt revolvers & semiautos, S&W revolvers, ect. Even the less popular bolt actions, such as the Remington 788, are commanding top dollar (and folks are getting it!).
I haven't been to a gun shop in a while.....gun shows even longer! Last time I was at a shop, the spot where the surplus arms were kept was pretty bare. IIRC, the only two rifles on the shelf were an old Mosin-Nagant and a French rifle (Berthier?), and both had seen a lot better days. One Sporting goods chain store here (Dunhams) carries all sorts of surplus arms, mostly Mosins and old mausers....most appear to be in fair condition, but again, prices are high.
