Day 3, '13

She dressed out at 125lbs. Since I haven't seen anything with horns worthy of a shot, I'd been hoping for a mature doe to come along. An hr before dark she kept to the edge...much like a buck...let the young ones have the open field. My Rott found her...50yds farther into the laurel than when I'd left the stand. With the leaves all wet from drizzle/rain and low fog...I'm glad I had the dog. Would've sucked stumbling through the mt Laurel in the dark looking for her. He's 11....prolly his last season. He earned his keep today.

Thanks, guys. I know the young ones are better eatin and all...but for the work, I might as well get as much out of as I can.

Murphy's Law in action today...

Long about the time I was finishing up the processing of the doe, I was headin back into the house. As I did so I glanced out at the pasture like I do every time I walk that walk. Thought I could make out a deer 'bout 35yds from my new stand location. My eyes are getting bad so I wasn't sweatin it but glanced out the kitchen windows after comin inside...

The slammin of the screen door got it's attention and I coulda swore there were horns on it. So, hurrying to get some binocs I glassed the spot. Sure enough a buck...a shooter. Wider than the ears..8pt...maybe 9. Not a wall hanger but nicer than anything I've seen so far this year.

Here's the kicker...no hunting here on Sunday's.

Congrats..better eatin than horns any day. I have seen a couple of nice bucks here at home. Saw a nice 5x5 sneakin through the cornfield behind the garden.. A wide basket rack deer. His daddy is a wallhanger though.. 6x6 and wide about 3 or 4 other small racked deer too./ Maybe 40 does..

well never thunk of it that way..Just that I have most of the treed land around for a ways..and whitetails like trees and brushy areas ya know....and they are close 'nuff to not have to worry too much about the wolves and mountain kitty and free food from my garden. The kitty pretty much stays away from places with people. The wolves have gotten a bit scairt of being too close to people too. I am in the predator zone and you can shoot 'em on sight..But you are supposed to report wolf kills though. Luckily we do not have grizz right here at home...yet
