Using the right magazine
A fellow shooter stopped by today and needed help with a problem with the magazine he purchased for his M1A. The magazine would not lock into the magazine well. It never would because it was a 20 round magazine for an FN/FAL or an L1A1. It worked just fine in my L1A1. This guy is a regular shooter at our monthly rifle matches and should know the right magazine. Fortunately the fellow has other magazines that will fit his M1A.
On the bright side, he gave me the magazine for my trouble. All the best... Gil |

The British .303 mags are the same problem.
Gil,
My neighbor bought a couple .303 magazines for his MkIII SMLE at a recent gun show and they did not work. There is a difference with MkIII magazines and No.4 MkI magazines. I have seen MkIII mags that only worked in some MkIIIs. I have seen some M14 mags that would not work in M1As. The list goes on: Lots of G.I. .45 ACP mags are good and others work in only some guns. Seeing the post reminded me that they say the RRA Operator in 308 takes a FN-FAL magazine.
